Hello, does anyone know if a blu-ray player will be able to be used with other types of TV's other than plasma or LCD.
I have a rear projection (LCD) and wondered 1. If it would work at all and 2. If it would still display the picture at 1920 x 1080. |

The Blu-ray player will indeed work with your PLCD. it will only display the image at 1920x1080p if your TV is capable of accepting a 1080p signal over its HDMI connection. Otherwise your TV will recieve a 1080i or 720p signal from the Blu-ray player.
At the current moment, I am not aware of any PLCD tvs that accept 1080p over HDMI. I know that the current generation of DLP's do, and the new Sony SXRDs do as well. |

Thanks for the reply ProvenFlipper, that's great to hear, I'm really looking forward to the release of the Blu-ray in the UK now.
And no my TV isn't progressive scan so I wont be able to use the Progressive feature but hopefully the picture will be alot better even interlaced. |

While I'm not sure what actual connections SCART is capable of carrying, S-Video does not have the bandwidth to carry HD signals. This has nothing to do with Blu-ray, but is specific to HD itself.
You can use component video for sure, and I believe SCART uses an RGB connection which will also work to carry HD signals. So, as long as the ICT flag isn't set on the discs (it shouldn't be for several years), you will be able to watch full 1080i or 720p video using that connection (SCART). |

I tell people to abandon the idea of component video support when it comes to anything HD, especially if you are currently in the market or are going to be in the market for a display.
Just don't even put yourself in that box. Component video is well on its way out, whether we like it or not. Make sure you buy a display with an HDCP compliant connection like HDMI. |
