The 50th anniversary episode of Doctor Who will air on tv in 3D in the UK and in cinemas in the UK in 3D.

No word yet if BBC America will show it in 3D or only regular 2D.

Oh my god! I really hope they put this out on Blu-ray as I am in the US and will not be able to watch the broadcast!

Very exciting news, especially since they've probably got special things planned for the anniversary special (I'm still hoping for some kind of multi-Doctor meeting!) I assume they'll put it out on 3D blu ray in the US, hopefully we won't have to wait too long...

Did anyone see this coming a few years ago when the Doc started wearing those anaglyph glasses to see things clearer?

That 3D ad on YouTube a couple years back was probably a dead give away too...

Default Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor in 3D?

Both Blu-ray .com and Amazon.com are listing Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor: 50th Anniversary Special as a Blu-ray 3D+Blu-ray+DVD Combo, but the picture of the slip-cover doesn't verify it.

It probably is 3D. The docs been planning this for a while. One of the seasons a couple years back launched with a 3D trailer.

this will be the 50th anniversary episode that is being filmed in 3D and will be shown in 3D along side the 2D version in November.

I am guessing the cover has not been updated.

you can read more information here.

Good to hear Doctor Who is offering respect for 3D. Many versions of the Doctor have been around since the early 70's, but nice to see it filming in 3D also.

Actually, it started in 1963 (hence the 50th anniversary) - it has gone from SD black-and-white to HD 3-D in those 5 decades

Default Longer episodes in Doctor Who blu-ray gift set

Can anyone tell me why all the episodes in the complete Doctor Who Blu-ray Gift set (with sonic screedriver) are about 2 minutes longer than the individual release of the rprevious DVD or Blu-ray copies? The previous copies had edited versions? The exist edited versiosn? I have never watched Doctor Who on TV and bougth season 1 on DVD, the Complete David Tannat years set and season 5 and 6 on blu-ray. I did a quick compare between the versiosn and all the episodes in the complete set are longer than the previous idividual releae (yes even the Christamas special and even longuer than the blu-ray releases).

I can'y verify for season 7 because I haven't bought it seperately, but I wager it is the same, Just for longer episodes I'm glad that I bought the pricey complete set. Now I'm worried that the complete season 8 or 50th anniversary doctor Who on bly-ray will be edited versions.

Does anyone know the explanation for the different length of the episodes.

Verify for yourself and pass the word to all Doctor Who fan... longer episodes in complete set.

Thank you

Perhaps it's due to the different frame rate british television shoots at?

I've only seen a handful of episodes, but didn't find it hard to follow along plotwise.

Highly recommended.

IMO, this production is a strong-3D experience having amazingly sharp detail to images and faces. No soft-look here like in some other earlier 3D filmed features.

As my first experience with the "Doctor Who" franchise, I really got into the science-fiction theme. The battle scenes have extraordinary native-3D CGI sequences and the live-action appears to be strong native-3D.
Enjoyed the experience immensely!

Anyway on to the 3D. I think this is one of the best live action 3D from the modern era. Is it perfect? Are any modern live action 3D movies? I'd probably say the 3D is comparable to Hugo. I will even say it is a notch above Hugo when it comes to the frequency of stereo roundness in shots. So this gets the thumbs up from me. Despite not fully understanding what was happening all the time I did enjoy it.
Sounds really good for the 3D, thanks for the reviews. I see John Hurt is in this one also; great actor.

Excellent! According to event listing, it was "Shot in 3D" so I'm assuming that the 3D is native.
