Warner Bros Jack the Giant Slayer (2013) Blu-ray 3D [Region Free]

Jack the Giant Slayer 3D Blu-ray

Went to the first 3D showing today and was very impressed.

This is what I would call a seriously oriented, fairytale coming to life with an air of believability. Found it very entertaining. The very young could be frightened with the thought of being eaten.

Native 3D is used generously with many realistic moments. Think the 3D cinematography also takes advantage of increasing camera intra-axial distances for realistic stereo effects that help creat a miniaturization look for towns people when Giants are present.

There were only around 25 people at the first 3D version show, but I hope the word gets out that it is entertaining for a very successful theatrical run.

Will definitely purchase the BD 3D when it becomes available.

Paul

Interesting article on the shooting of the movie.

Critics are split on this one 50% each on Rotten Tomatoes with over 100 reviews making that up. I am looking forward to seeing it when it opens in my country. Saw the trailer before Hansel and Gretel and the 3D looks really good.

Hi everyone, new here, but have lurked for a while.

I went to see this today at first showing as well. There were only about 10 people in the audience, which is fine by me!!!

I can't speak to any technical aspects, but I don't think the 3D was all that great. There were a lot of segments of the movie where it was just people talking and there, the depth was adequate, but nothing more than average. But those really aren't the kind of scenes where 3D can shine. There were some scenes where the 3D was integral to the story telling, but they were a smaller part of the movie than I would have liked. These parts were great though. Overall for the $180 million budget, I wanted to be wowed. I wasn't. I would have liked to have seen more elements of the story where the 3D could have been utilized and allowed to stand out.

The previews were numerous though, and there are a lot of good looking 3D movies coming this spring and summer:

Epic - awesome preview can't wait for this one
the Croods - looks pretty good, not interested in the storyline though
GI Joe - lots of action, pretty good looking 3D
Man of Steel - looks great, lots of action, good story
Despicable Me - awesome preview with cool pop outs (LOVE that)
Oz the Great and Powerful - awesome preview can't wait for this one
Jurassic Park - looks pretty good for a remix (is that the proper technical term?) LOL

Anyway, just my $.02.

Other sources are saying $195 million. Yikes! I presumed the budget was much smaller from seeing the trailers like 60-70 million.

Not surprised considering the amount of special-effect work and planning that obviously was a passion for the scope of the production. It excited my inner child.

Saw it Friday night with two others. We all liked it and I found the 3D to be good. I'll be picking up the 3D BD when available.

Saw this last night and thought the 3d was weak, but it could have been the theater setup. Very dark in some spots and I had to take the glasses off every once in a while to make sure the picture was 3d.
I thought Hansel & Gretel was much better.

Will still buy both on Blu Ray for sure.

Story was very entertaining in both films!

I saw this in the theater and like it a lot. Wish the price is lower though. Maybe I will wait out.

I didn't hate this movie and 3D in theater so preordered it at Amazon and received the copy today.

I can no longer be a lazy bum and get Sunday paper, check the prices of 3D movies at Best Buy/Target/Walmart then determine whether to buy in store or buy from Amazon... then go online and cancel the order from Amazon. After realizing price is $27.99 at Target, I went online to see if Amazon lowered it to $27.99 or I should cancel it and noticed it was already in the process of shipping. At least price was $27.99 like it should be. I guess Amazon realized people like to cancel on Sunday so they now start the shipping process on Sunday instead of Monday morning. Oh well, I guess I should do a bit more work and check prices on Wednesday or so at sites that lists Sunday ads earlier in the week.

I am looking forward to watching it at home.

I saw Jack the Giant Slayer at the theatre in 3d. On 3d bluray, the movie is gorgeous. The picture is pristine with great clarity and detail. The 3d is very good with impressive depth and scale befitting a movie shot in native 3d. I'd rank the quality of the 3d as better than Hansel and Gretel and almost as good as The Hobbit. Like the Hobbit, the 3d is not in your face as much as a feature that adds to the immersive feel of the visual presentation. Oh yeah, and the bluray comes with a cool lenticular slipcover!!!

Agreed! Some scenes seem to surpass the Hobbit in that stereo Left and Right cameras are separated farther apart in some scenes to make the people look tiny in stereo compared to the Giants. Excellent affect!
