Die Hard

These would probably round out my top 5:

Hard Boiled
Terminator 2
The Killer
The Matrix

Agreed. That film is so ahead of its time IMO.

I think the new Star Trek, The Avengers, King Kong, Casino Royale, Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol, and 300 deserve to be mentioned as well. I might add more to this post since I've been wanting to keep a list of my favorite action movies.

There would a pretty big dogfight for second place but yeah, first is pretty easy: Die Hard

In recent memory, The Raid is probably one of the finest action films made, taking a genre that had gathered a whole mess around it, taking away all the convoluted complications and cliches and just focusing on the barebones of it all, what really matters, the action.

But Die Hard will never be beaten, and it doesn't come close to the likes of Terminator 2, Aliens, Robocop, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Predator, The Matrix, First Blood.

I guess Skyfall could go up for nomination as well, for taking Bond in a new direction while giving everything you could possibly want from a Bond film and then some.

A big +1. That one'll stand the test of time.

T2, Enter the Dragon, and The Matrix are the ultimate action films imo.

Pretty much any Michael Bay movie besides Pearl Harbor.

Terminator 2 is a good movie...but the action is rather meh.

My list looked like this in the early '00 :

01 | The Rock
01 | Aliens
03 | Terminator 2 : Judgment Day

Now it would be :

01 | Aliens
02 | The Matrix
03 | Terminator 2 : Judgment Day

Saw 'The Rock' recently and -I don't know- I couldn't understand how this made my list in the first place.
