Ugh. I always get annoyed when I see Winona's name spelt like that. It's not even pronounced that way.
So is this a new master then? I personally thought the blu ray looked fine, but I remember people complaining about it on here. |

+1. I have the original release, but I almost bought the Beetlejuice/The Corpse Bride/Charlie and the Chocolate Factory triple feature a week ago and it even had a nice slipcover. However, after standing there for about 10 seconds I recalled just how horrible Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is and how mediocre The Corpse Bride is.

Personally, I love Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I think it's much better than the other version starring Gene Wilder, especially since it captures the book a lot better. Don't get me wrong, I love Wilder's version, but I prefer Burton's adaption. And I think Johnny Depp did a better job at portraying Wonka as he was in the book. Wilder simply took the idea of Wonka and gave it his own spin (which is what makes it great). |

Knowing Warner Bros. and their streak for releasing Anniversary Editions of their titles, I'm going to go ahead and say that this will most definitely get a Digibook. I'm so excited, too!!!
I already own this on Blu-ray, but I will gladly double dip. I hope that it gets a new transfer (although I don't really think it needs one). And I hope they keep the isolated score intact. And I also hope it includes a second disc with all the extras, whatever they may be. I bet it will also feature some sort of nod to the sequel. |

Finally! This was one of those bare-bones DVDs that was screaming for an elaborate special edition for years. Then when they announced the new DVD/Blu and the only extras were the 3 random cartoon episodes it was the ultimate disappointment/missed opportunity, and now that those same episodes will be available as part of a complete series set the current Blu seems even lamer.

There's no guarantee any new extras will be included, they could just stick the existing disc in a digibook. Remember their basically bare-bones '25th Anniversary Edition' of Poltergeist? All that had was a silly, tangentially related featurette on ghosts.

The first adaptation is a guilty pleasure at best. Nostalgia goes a long way in regards to obscuring its many flaws. At least the Burton version retains the demented edge of Dahl's book. The fact that Dahl actually wrote songs with lyrics (which Burton and Elfman used) that were scrapped in favor of dreck like "Cheer Up Charlie" says it all. |
