Default Aerosmith: Rock for the Rising Sun - June 2013

Aerosmith: Rock for the Rising Sun Blu-ray
Aerosmith: Rock for the Rising Sun Blu-ray Review

Quote:
Eagle Rock Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on Blu-ray Aerosmith: Rock for the Rising Sun. This is the band's first live video release in 9 years, since the release of You Gotta Move in 2004 and it offers a unique portrayal of life on the road with Aerosmith combined with superb live performances, as the band toured Japan. Street date is July 23rd.

Rock For The Rising Sun features the classic tracks: "Love In An Elevator," "Livin' On The Edge," "Last Child," "Walk This Way," "Draw The Line," "Sweet Emotion," "Hangman Jury," and many more, with material drawn from shows throughout this tour. As bonuses, the DVD includes extra live tracks, "Lick And A Promise" recorded at the Hiroshima Green Garden Arena and "One Way Street" taken from the Tokyo Dome.

In March 2011, Japan was beset by a huge earthquake, a monstrous tsunami and the subsequent meltdown of the Fukushima nuclear plant. In the autumn of 2011, despite advice to the contrary, Aerosmith brought their "Back On The Road" tour to Japan, a country with which they'd always had a special relationship. The Japanese fans came out in droves and Aerosmith responded with some of the finest shows of their distinguished career. This film follows the band on that tour combining full-length live tracks with behind the scenes footage, which is at times touching and emotional and at others humorous and insightful. More than anything else it demonstrates the Japanese fans' love affair with Aerosmith and their music.

Aerosmith are truly one of the great rock acts of all time and this incredible concert film brings together tracks from across their storied career. A live band par excellence, Rock For The Rising Sun shows them rolling up their sleeves and doing what they do better than anyone else.

Tracklisting

1) Draw The Line
2) Love In An Elevator
3) Livin' On The Edge
4) Hangman Jury
5) No More No More
6) Mama Kin
7) Monkey On My Back
8) Toys In The Attic
9) Listen To The Thunder
10) Sweet Emotion
11) Boogie Man
12) Rats In The Cellar
13) Movin' Out
14) Last Child
15) S.O.S. (Too Bad)
16) Walk This Way
17) Train Kept A Rollin' (credits)

I just hope the live footage isn't interrupted between songs like the You Gotta Move DVD. That's my only real complaint about that concert disc. I'll wait for a review, if it is I'll probably pass.

Given what the description says, it wouldn't surprise me if the concert and documentary portions were edited together.

I'll still buy this regardless since it's the only chance to watch one of their concerts on Blu-ray.

I agree, the description certainly even more than just suggests that everything will be edited together. Which, I think, sucks. I mean, Aerosmith is a big enough band to release a concert only blu and one with both the documentary and songs edited together and still sell well.

I'm not at all a fan of concerts that are interrupted like this, so the reviews will have to be stellar or I'll simply going to have to rely on my memory of seeing them live several times in my life. Another thing is just how good I feel like the set-list is or isn't. If it leans even slightly too much towards their recent stuff and leaves out a few too many great songs, it will be easier to pass on this.

I look at the recent releases by Alanis Morissette and soon from Garbage as set-lists and are about as good as you can possibly expect when you know that no one can play their entire catalog or make everyone 100% happy.

I saw them live a few months back. It was a killer show which makes all their recent off-stage drama and 15-year streak of terrible music all the more depressing. And the sports stadium was 2/3rds full at best.

They need to get a producer like Rick Rubin to guide them towards one last great album then they need to pack it up on a good note. If Aerosmith ended today it would be a pathetic and sad ending indeed.

Seen them live quite a few times but they skipped the UK this time but having got the new album I wasn't impressed.
Their last great album for me was "Get a grip", after that it was just snippets from the future albums that I liked.
Permanent vacation is still a classic , may pick up the blu ray but it's going to have to go down to $10 before I'm tempted.

The 'Smith has been done for some time now. Last good tour was for Pump, with Joanie opening for them. Get A Grip was OK but too much Tyler shenanigans (again).

Saw them last week. First day for me. I dont mind the new songs nor the old. True, some of the newer songs suck(I Dont Wanna Miss a Thing), but if they didnt adopt to new generation, they would be like Poison or Megadeth. 4 decades of music, they need to adopt and get new fans.

Atleast they still mix songs for different generations on their concerts.

But that said, I agree, I hope interviews wont be edited in between the songs! "You Gotta Move" sucks cuz of it.

Japanese import at Amazon is up for pre-order. $100+ LOL! US version will be on July though.

I want this!
They've made a lot of great music and I hope this concert is as good as they make it out to be!
I've seen them twice, so I don't have much doubt that it'll be killer!!

More than anything else it demonstrates the Japanese fans' love affair with AEROSMITH and their music.

"Rock For The Rising Sun" was directed by Casey Patrick Tebo, and combines live performance material with behind-the-scenes footage that shows the nation coping with the destruction. The movie is due for release on DVD and Blu-ray on July 22 via Eagle Rock Entertainment.

"I have never seen any band I've ever worked for be revered like this band was by the Japanese people," Tebo told BostonHerald.com in a recent interview. "They're bigger than THE [ROLLING] STONES, bigger than THE BEATLES. They're very special over there."

Tebo told BostonHerald.com that he filmed all of the band's shows but didn't set out to make a documentary. But when he saw the footage, he knew he had a great concert film.

"The band didn't even know," he said. "So when it was finished, I rented a theater in L.A. and showed it to them. When the movie was done, [AEROSMITH guitarist] Joe [Perry] stood up and gave me a hug and started crying. It was a pretty ?cathartic thing."

"Rock For The Rising Sun" track listing:

01. Draw The Line
02. Love In An Elevator
03. Livin' On The Edge
04. Hangman Jury
05. No More No More

Most likely edited with interviews in between songs, but since this set list is ten times better than "you gotta move" DVD I will be picking this up!

Obviously this isn't a LIVE Concert only release, but like it says above, "Combing LIVE tracks with behind the scenes footge".

Lol, they've played that song a Zillion times live (more than likely, in EVERY Concert they've ever played in the STATES), so being as this show was in Japan, maybe that's why they left it out, so they could get in a few "Other" songs (not normally played LIVE). Specifically, the ones in BOLD, are not normally played Live in the States. Maybe at some shows sure, when they feel like mixing it up, but those are few & far between. Trust me on that; I've seen them ENOUGH to know. Usually it's the same 15-18 song setlist.

Aerodude...Toys is my fave album too!
I am kinda bummed about no Dream On either...def one of Steven's highlight vocals.
But it could be an Easter egg...or it might be on the Japanese blu-ray.
Can't wait to turn up the volume on this one!

I don't think the set list was posted when I first commented. I absolutely understand that you can't make everyone happy and agree it's great to see some songs that don't normally get played live, but that set list is still very disappointing. Very. If they already had a few concert releases on blu, probably no big deal. But for their first and maybe only? Not good enough in my opinion. Dream On is hardly the only big omission and I don't care how many millions of times they have played it. If the song bores them a bit, skip it a few times before you film your blu-ray concert. It's their signature song. And I know they are old and Steven puts a lot into his shows, but the Stones play more songs during a concert and Jagger doesn't exactly sit in a rocking chair all night.

PS-now that I see the songs and not just the interviews are from different venues in Japan, it makes the set list even more disappointing. If you aren't filming one live show, you might as well cram the blu-ray with as many songs as possible. Not even one of the Alicia Silverstone songs? No Janie's Got A Gun?

Looking forward to this, great setlist IMHO. I haven't seen them since before the "Honikin' On Bobo" Tour. And I enjoyed teh newest album, although I felt like it was a bit too long and could have been edited down to 10 or 11 songs.
