A little tired of things...

I'm a little tired of all the back and forth BS that i read every day on every thread of every forum I go to. Every thread goes from discussing one thing then becomes codec this, mpeg that, blu ray this...hddvd that.

Honestly i'm tired of it. I'm tired of defending BR, and I'm tired of the usless jibber jabber. Whats going to happen is going to happen. Not you, me or anyone else is going to change anything.

So what i've decided to do is refrain from participating in coversations here that result in discussions of which format will win/lose, what codec is better, anything about DL/SL and why i choose what i choose. It's my decision and my money and quite frankly I don't have to explain myself to anyone. I put up with enough shit earning my money...I won't put up with it when i'm spending it. I think i've earned my respect in this forum here, and I really appreciate you guys. But I see a slow trend appearing here in that every thread is now becoming a war.

I have already removed myself from HDTVoice.com and now AVSforum as I just can't stand it anymore there. And I want to keep my forum posting days limited to here. But I am no longer going to contribute to the BS madness.

Sitting back reading this stuff today I thought to myself..."Why in the hell is everyone getting so emotional about this stuff?" why don't people just buy some shit and enjoy it?

I mean, this is some awesome shit, and i've spent far more on things i used far less in my life. And if $500 or $1000 even is going to haunt you. You have no business even considering or even being interested in this stuff. That or you need to re-evaluate your financial situation. Or wait some years for things to improve, get cheaper or the dust to settle if you will.

So, that is that guys...I needed to vent and I just wanted to let all of you know that I will start getting quieter and quieter as days go on, and probably dissapear completely come october when I finally get my BDP-S1.

I just don't want to ruin the good time i'm prepared to have with HD movies with people constantly ruining my high.

Should anyone need to get a hold of me or want to chat individually I am on all chat clients and am on regularly throughout the day when i'm not at work. Hit me up! Most of you guys have been great and I hope this forum continues to be crap-free.

I agree. With the little information that trickles out lately these forums (I'm talking across the web not singling this one) have become one big echo chamber. It's been nothing but single layer this and MPEG2 that over and over and over. Not that the BDA doesn't need to be hit in the head with this matter but for a regular user there's hardly anything new going on.

Please report all objectionable posts and I will be happy to look into them. The codec issue does cause a lot of heated debate. What do you suggest I do? Shall I make a thread specifically for debating codecs? Even at that, discussions on the different codecs is going to pop up in various other threads. I don't see how I would be able to keep it to a single thread. I'm open to suggestions.

ahh man, honestly there is nothing you can do NYG, you've been short of amazing here and it's not your fault, so please don't take it that way.
We've got other previous great forums (AVSforums) for one that have been completely thrashed from all of this and they have more Mods than you can shake a stick at. And IMO you've done 10x the job (ALONE MIGHT I ADD) then they have as a group.

I think PSi Weaver stated it best, theres so little new news everyday that the same tired topics get slung back-n-forth.

It's probably only tiresome for guys like me, JTK, Psi, You & Some of the other "OG's" here.

I was just venting and I had to get it off my chest, your doing an awsome job. And I with the help of the other Vets here will help in reporting offtopic posts or stuff that looks to be getting out of hand.

one thing i will say, i don't give a crap about the codecs. if it's mpeg-2 but looks superb, that's fine by me. just give me a great viewing experience. i think too much is being made about the sl/dl and the codecs instead of the possibility that the player may not really be that good. maybe tosh really did make a good reliable player (it is a computer after all) and that's why the picture is that much better (can't verify that the picture is really better because i have only seen blu-ray in person). just my thoughts...

I agree the post here sometimes are a little one sided. I think some of the HD people are bashing us blu ray people. After I posted about my thoughts on the fifth element and my HD DVD player (which I had two defective in a row), some one proceeded to post there thought which I had no problem but made my thoughts seem completely wrong. Well here is one for all you HD people, with all do respect after having 2 Toshiba HD-A1 HD DVD Players go to crap in less than 1 month, and having 1 Samsung BD-P1000 that I have had no problems with, IMO there is a world of difference between the two, and I don't think you have to ask which I think is better or what I will recommend to some one else. The whole code thing really who cares? I go by what I see and hear and the HD is lacking in all areas. It isn't my equimpent either, if you want a list ask. Now that my rant is done I feel much better.
Also one thing I noticed about the comparison between HD DVD and Blu Ray with the same movie, the TV used was not able to use 1080p for the blu ray, so yet again blu ray is not givin a fare shot. Thank you for putting up with my insain rant.

This post is almost a year old and I find it still true today. Not every thread is a war but there are enough emotion filled words to ring a chord with BTBuck1's well-worded post.

I wish the mindset of "you are either with us or you are against us" would evaporate. We should accept the fact that we are now the "big kid on the block" when it comes to HD. I hope we can stop feeling the necessity to pummel others into an unconscious state of being banned when we dom't agree with what they have to say.

My posting is not directed specifically at any recent banning. I don't even know the thread or person in question. I want us all, (myself included), to reflect on our attack mentality taking place towards others. In the words of BTBuck1: "Peace and good luck to you all!!!"

(Back to my search for : "Full Metal Jacket Remastered." I read this post during the search and felt it deserved a bump up. Well, said BTBuck1.)

I think it's cool this thread was unearthed. I forgot about even making it.

Hehehe, NYG was like the only Mod here then, and JTK had an HDDVD player..wow, this is old.

It's kinda neat watching myself plot out what I wanted to buy (I didnt even have a BD player yet then) and I got almost everything I said I was going to get. Except I never got a BDP-S1 (instead started with the bdp1000, now with bdps300) and I got the ps3 in Novemeber (instead of feb 07) And I do still use the 6 channel analogs, and I use the 360 for casual HDDVD watching, Universal & weinstein mainly.

I still feel the way I did then, now. The Codec war has pretty much subsided since many of the lies and fud were dismissed. But there is still too much bickering about all this in general. It's went from people saying BD or HDDVD sucks, to now it's all about sales figures or special features. I am really tired of it. I think it's unfortunate so many people are so close minded...thats how all this got going in the first place. If people really loved movies, they would probably own both. Instead I think many just like to fight....so it gives them a reason to exist.

BTBuck1, I greatly appreciated your original words. And for me...that is exactly why I don't publish my hardware and software ownership in my sig. I would say 80% of the membership in all AV forums do this. Frankly, I just don't care about getting into a pissing contest or elitist macho crap about "who owns what" or "how big their equipment is" or "how many titles they own". There is so much of that BS on other forums I just gave up posting over there. I've seen posts from folks feeling embarrassed that they could only afford a 720p or a 32" display!! WTF!!! I'm here to enjoy Home Theater as a hobby and share it with others no matter what they can afford or how many titles they own. I hope eveyone else is on-board with that.

There's nothing wrong with a 32" 720p. It's better than 95% of everyone else's diplays.
