Default Tired of Waiting

Hey guys my Onkyo 606 hdmi inputs went out little over a month ago so I sent it in for repair and it has been 3 weeks and they still haven't even got around to look at it. . Since I always wanted a new AV I am looking for suggestions for 1k budget. Sorry I know this topic comes up a lot.

I have been eye balling the Onkyo 807 but not sure since last one crapped out on me. I'll take any suggestion thrown at me but I don't care for Pioneer (elite etc.. they are too big) and the AV must have pre outs.

So any suggestions?

Recently brought at least 15+ blus after AV broke and tv speakers don't cut it lol

Marantz makes some nice receivers. Have you looked at them?

On a 1k budget, I personally recommend Pioneer Elite. But there's great word of mouth on Marantz. I have not listened to these receivers, so I cant confirm.

I would go with Denon or Marantz.

Absolutely these receivers in that price range IMO, as size can matter, and for the better. For just a little over $1,000 you could get an SC-07. This is last years model, but some can still be found. If you want to keep it under $1,000, and can get an SC-05 for around $800 if you can find one, which I think you can rather easily. The SC-05 can be found for about $800 if you look good enough. These are great receivers with plenty of power and run cool with their ICE amps. Check them out on the Pioneer Elite 01/03/05/07/09 Thread or the Pioneer Elite 21/23/25/27 Thread. Good luck.

No Marantz are not online only, but they're a little less common in local stores than some of the other brands. I know you said no Pioneer, but I have to agree with some of the others that it's a brand you should take a look at.

Be careful with Denon. Not all new models have pre-outs. I think you'll need to spend more than 1k to get the pre-outs...Unless you buy an older model Denon.

And please, Audition your choices. I cant stress this enough. I was sold on Denon, until I heard it next to the Elite that I ended up purchasing.

This is great advise by Irrob. Too often we suggest to listen to speakers before buying, but it is not as often suggested to do the same with receivers as well.

I have a denon 3808ci which was just discontinued and it has been great. I thought it sounded much better and had better features than comparable onkyo's and pioneers when I was shopping. I haven't ever heard the marantz receivers, but they make nice stuff. I would definitely figure out what is most important to you such as hdmi inputs, watts, pre outs or whatever it may be, and compare each similarly priced receiver.

Thnx for suggestion, You guys here convinced me to give Pioneer. If I can get the SC-05 for around $800 I will probably jump on it after I listen to it. Sucks everytime I go into Best Buy to listen no one wants to help or they can't get the board to work etc...

The 92 is an older model that is very comparable to the SC-05, but the 05's were given better components to make them more efficient. The 05 has the new ICE amp's that make it sing with a clean and powerful signal, that the 92 does not have. The 05 also has a 192 kHz/24 bit Wolfson DAC for digital analog conversion, which is also an improvement over the 92's regular 192kHz/24 bit conversion ability. The 05 has an ipod doc, and is also THX Select2Plus certified, which the 92 is not. This certification means the receiver went through many additional tests to become THX certified and can be used with other THX certified equipment. There is also 4 HDMI inputs compared to the 92's 3 , so this is another difference. Both are great receivers, but the 05 is the improved version of the 92 because the 05 came out after the 92. I think the 92 has that sale price of $1000 because of supply and demand, since there are probably few around. As you can see, the SC-05 for $800 is a better deal.

EDIT: I see you noticed the networking capability as well.

I suggest calling 6ave.com. They sometimes have items in stock that are not on their website. I am not going to say for sure they have the 05, but I did get mine from there, and I got a better deal when i called. It sure can't hurt.....

I agree also on the auditioning. Especially because all have different tastes. I was sold on the Pioneer SC05/SC07 until I heard the Denon I ended up purchasing from my dealer.

Ok after searching around on the internet looking for a pioneer SC-05. I found a SC-07 at my local Best Buy for $1100 which they will sell to me for $900 because it's a open box. Should I pull the trigger on the 07 or save more money for the Sc-25/27 which is a significant amount of money more? lol I think I may have answered my own question, but wanted some other opinions. It would probably take me a few months to come up with an extra $700 bucks.

I am currently AV-less so I don't know how long I can hold out
