Excellent! There's a BD coming out in Germany, but so much of the film is in foreign languages, and the German disc would not have English subs for only those scenes, you'd have to use the subs running through the whole movie, or endlessly switch them on and off.
Hope they port over the commentary and documentary from the existing DVD. I'd definitely rebuy for a new HD transfer, such gorgeous photography in this film. Last edited by James Luckard; 07-25-2013 at 05:48 PM. |

I'll contact Shout's Cliff MacMillan and ask him for the confirmation...or denial.

I love On Golden Pond and would love to have it. As for Sophie's Choice... I guess I'd go for it. The first time I saw it, I felt like i was punched in the stomach and vowed never to watch it again. The acting is so good though, I'd like to see it on blu.

I just got the Hong Kong Bluray - very good video and audio quality finally. English subtitles pop up during the German dialogue.
This movie has got to be the most uncomfortable third-wheel movie I've ever seen. The Peter MacNicol character, Jesus Christ, give a couple some space! |

This is way late, but I'm confused A) What were you hoping to gain other than a stomach punch? A light smack? A stomach punch is nothing compared to what Nazi Germany camp inmates went through. B.1) Does blu ray make acting chops better? and B.2) Why do acting chops and/or blu ray awesomeness make you question the value in your vow?

Anyway, I think both films deserve to be remastered for either Blu-ray or 4K Blu-ray, AND they both deserve to be shown in their CORRECT and PROPER aspect ratio of 1.85:1. |

I have the UK ITV release of CAPRICORN ONE. Although there are no Bonus Features the PQ is very nice. I'm a bit disappointed however with the sound. There is some distortion and breakup as if it were recorded too high - and this is during dialog sequences. The film was release, selectively, in 4track stereo & 6track in bumped up 70mm, but who knows what elements were used for the transfer. An audio upgrade is needed - Jerry Goldsmith's score is incredible.
Also, another ITC film that might be part of the package, THE COMPANY OF WOLVES is another ITV release. That master is also very nice with a 2.0 Dolby Surround mix (the original mix). But again, no extras. I really like this film and hope it also gets a North American release. Too many people have forgotten it and only aware of the newer rip-off RED RIDING HOOD. - Scott B. |
