Question Do you watch / keep, sell or give away the 2D disc that comes with a 3D Blu-ray ?

Come to think of it since I have my setup I've rarely watched the 2D disc after my initial 3D viewing. I think the Avengers is the only title so far that I have watched the 2D viewing of. I have been wanting to watch Titanic 2D for the different aspect ratio but haven't found the time.

Disney always puts their Intermissions on the 2D disk (along with the rest of the special features), so yeah, had to go give the 2D Wreck-It Ralph a spin just to see the "Game cameos" intermission feature.

I haven't done this much, but yes... some movies have good 3D that I enjoy but do not even prefer to the 2D presentations. Examples of this include the final two Harry Potter films and Star Trek Into Darkness.

Nope. If something is available in 3D.....I watch it in 3D.

I do. As a matter a fact there are some titles I will never watch in 3d for a second time, such as Jurassic Park 3Dnr. Too much detail is lost for me.

Good to know about the 2D Wreck it Ralph disc, thanks Eric.

99% of the time, I'll just watch the 3D version if the 3D is good enough and 1% of the time, watch the 2D version:

In the case of Oz: Great and Powerful, I was pretty disappointed in the most of the time mild 3D, so switched it to 2D instead. But only after seeing it completely the 2nd time in 3D. This would apply to Smurfs also.

I usually watch in 2d first, then another watch in 3d and then decide which was better overall and watch it that way if I ever watch again. I certainly do not prefer everything I have seen in 3d over its 2d counterpart though.

Best Buy Keeping a 2D and 3D version

Hi,

I have several movies now where the 2D version was available first (or was on sale first).

For a moment, I was tempted to sell back my 2D copies of stuff where the 3D plays back in 2D also.

Guess I won't do that though... someone always asks me why I have multiple copies of the same movie though.

What do you guys do with 2D and 3D copies.... ??? Assuming you have overlap.

-Brian

I replaced a few 2D titles with 3D titles when I got a 3D projector and I sold the 2D versions where I could. Why would I want to keep them when every 3D Blu-ray includes a 2D version anyway ?

I usually keep the standalone 2D copies when there is no 2D disc in the combo pack like Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon and Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs.

If the 3D combo comes with a 2D Blu, then I either pack the standalone 2D release away (although I recycle the cases to replace broken ones or when I lend out movies I use them - I have a small stack of duplicates just sitting in a box without cases) or giveaway the duplicate 2D bluray.

Edit - good point bhampton... I forgot about those 3D discs that play 2D also, I keep the standalone 2D in those cases as well.

Well,... Couple of reasons...

1) Not every 3D Blu Ray includes a 2D version... almost all of them do but some do not.

2) It's possible (and likely) the 2D version will play back better in 2D than the 3D version played back in 2D. This is true of Underworld Awakening which looks better from the 2D disc. I haven't compared my Avatar 2D copy to playback of the 2D version from the 3D disc but it's possible that the 2D copy has a higher bit rate and possibly better video quality as a result.

I was tempted to take a small stack of my 2D versions (The Final Destination, I Robot, Avatar, and Legends of G'hoole (can't spel that one)) but I figure I would be lucky to get $10 for all of them combined and it wasn't worth the time, energy, hassle, and so on... When I want to watch in 2D, it's easier to just throw in the 2D specific copy.

Anyways,... I could see either side... which I why I asked... getting rid of 2D specific copies makes sense to me as much as keeping them.

If anything ... it's sort of a backup ... not that I can afford to really back up all my Blus.

The only occasions where I would keep a 2D version is an extended cut, not available in 3D (Avatar for instance). That said, since having seen the 3D Avatar on my projector, I can't imagine ever going back to 2D. It's the only way to watch it, even if I think that the extended version is in some ways a better film.

That's kind of how I am, if the 2d has any features the 3d doesn't have I'll keep it, otherwise I usually give or trade away the 2d copy.

Question Do you watch 3D movies in 2D?

Do you ever bother now? I have quite a few 3D blu rays that i've never actually seen in 2D. Usually if the studio is daft and limits a commentary track to the 2D disc, then i'll watch the 2D disc just for the commentary, but otherwise i never feel the compulsion to watch the movie in 2D if it has a 3D version.

I do depending on where I am and who I'm with. Also, some 3D movies are done so poorly it's not even worth watching it in 3D.

I'm the only one in my household who watches movies in 3D for the most part, everyone else gets nasty headaches otherwise. So on occasion I'm watching the 2D version with the kids or girlfriend even though it pains me to do so, lol.

Me too, my wife and son don't really care for 3D. I'm new to it, but quite enjoy the 3D titles I have. Although I won't watch if I'm tired. Funny, I was watching the 3D version of Need For Speed and my wife sat there at looked at it occasionally without the glasses on and at the end commented on how much she enjoyed the movie.

I will watch a 2D version just the once if it comes as an extended cut like Hansel and Gretal, Avatar, or the wolverine for instance, but will always prefer the 3D version overall.
