Lots of people sell off the 3D disc only in the trading forum, so that's a good way to add the 3D version to an existing 2D set.

The only one I have that is a duplicate was because I bought the 2D from a going out of business Blockbuster sale for something like $2 and liked it more than I thought I would. When I found the 3D version on a great sale I bought it. Its a 3D/2D on the same disc one so I just made my own combo pack out of it.

I used to have a lot more duplication thanks to DVD's, but Best Buy's UG&S program did wonders for clearing those out. I sure wish they would bring that back.

Question Do you watch 3D movies in 2D?

Do you ever bother now? I have quite a few 3D blu rays that i've never actually seen in 2D. Usually if the studio is daft and limits a commentary track to the 2D disc, then i'll watch the 2D disc just for the commentary, but otherwise i never feel the compulsion to watch the movie in 2D if it has a 3D version.

I do depending on where I am and who I'm with. Also, some 3D movies are done so poorly it's not even worth watching it in 3D.

I'm the only one in my household who watches movies in 3D for the most part, everyone else gets nasty headaches otherwise. So on occasion I'm watching the 2D version with the kids or girlfriend even though it pains me to do so, lol.

Me too, my wife and son don't really care for 3D. I'm new to it, but quite enjoy the 3D titles I have. Although I won't watch if I'm tired. Funny, I was watching the 3D version of Need For Speed and my wife sat there at looked at it occasionally without the glasses on and at the end commented on how much she enjoyed the movie.

I will watch a 2D version just the once if it comes as an extended cut like Hansel and Gretal, Avatar, or the wolverine for instance, but will always prefer the 3D version overall.

Good question Levcore.

Yes.

As the last movie before going to sleep, MILD 3D films such as:

Tron Legacy 3D in 2D.
Smurfs 3D in 2D. As rare as it is that I watch it.
Much of Harry Potter Deathly Hallows 2 3D in 2D. (just watch the opening scene with Warwick Davis as the small troll as evidence of mild 3D).
Maybe Conan 3D in 2D.
Predator 3D in 2D.
Man of Steel 3D in 2D.
I Robot 3D in 2D.
Clash of the Titans 3D in 2D.

I do like a good number of these movies A LOT, but compare the 3D in any one of the above to Avatar 3D, Pacific Rim 3D, Jurassic Park 3D, Titanic 3D or any strong 3D film like Turtle's Tale 2 3D, and you'll see what I mean by mild 3D. Thankfully not every shot is mild, but most of the footage in these films are if we do a side by side objective comparison.

Once in awhile I'll turn on the 3D for these during the shots I know look better in 3D. Otherwise, they are examples of why 3D gets a bad wrap for offering "barely there" 3D much of the way.

I can only watch the 2d extended cut of wolverine. The 3d disc has some contrast issues and the extended cut is so far and away a better cut that I can say, I will never watch the 3d version of wolverine again. Well maybe the train scene.

It all just depends what kind of mood I'm in for the rest of my collection. It's not a question of - do I watch this movie in 2d or 3d? It's do I feel like watching 2d or 3d? Then I pick the movie. This is starting to make less and less sense. Enjoy.

I watch many films available in 3d in 2d. Films that either had film makers who either had no idea how to utilize 3d or where disinterested in 3d (The Amazing Spider-Man) ir it was tacked on after the fact with no interest by the film makers (clash of the titans, godzilla etc).
