Default Pacific Rim / Cloverfield

I know its not suppose to be, but Pacific Rims back story sounds just like Cloverfield. I think you could almost call Cloverfirld a prequel. Just wondering what others thought.

THIS.

Although it's far from a perfect movie, Cloverfield was superior than Del Toro's over-hyped cliché-filled James Cameron-quality script. The story/characters/acting were so awful I was praying for the monsters to kill every last person on the planet. The action contained almost zero excitement. I was severely disappointed with Pacific Rim.

You could take the few monster scenes out of cloverfield and still have a watchable movie by just implying everything, pacific rim not so much. If pacific rim was called transformers 4 everyone would say how much it sucks.

I loved Pacific Rim and think it's better than Cloverfield but Cloverfield isn't a pos.

I'd say Pacific Rim is a pos and Cloverfield is just average.

Cloverfield was more realistic. It is what a real attack by a giant monster would be like, absolute terrifying chaos. Pacific Rim was more fun though. Cloverfield had an outstanding viral marketing campaign, Pacific Rim's marketing capaign was nearly non existent. I love both films to death, both are terrific in their own ways.

I've loved giant monster movies since I was a kid and would watch the Godzilla films with my grandmother. With that said Cloverfield is quit possibly the biggest letdown ever. It was terrible in every way and IMO the monster design was crap. I could go along with the handy cam idea and I think it was executed very well but I'm sorry when I go to see a kaiju movie I'm going to see it for the monster(s) not for a bunch of humans running around being scared. I don't know if it will ever find it's way into my collection for those reasons. Being an anime fan as well Pacific Rim is like a wet dream come to life. It was spectacular in every way and gave me more then I could ever possibly want from a movie. With that said it all really doesn't matter because the king returns next year. Bring on Big G

Cloverfield is one of my least favorite movie experiences ever. I really enjoyed Pacific Rim.

Both are just "monsters from the deep" without any real explanation. It's no so much the same back story as no back story. I'm glad they didn't waste time with an elaborate explanation of why it was plausible. We're just dropped into a world where huge monsters are causing problems.

Well, I watched Cloverfield a couple days before Pacific Rim came out, and they felt like a good double feature.
