Hey everyone, I have a crappy JVC 5.1 surround sound system. I'm looking to upgrade for around 750 - 1500 dollars, any suggestions? I'm not to good with the tech lingo so links would be nice. thanks

Go with a Onkyo TX-SR605 or 705 receiver and Onkyo SKS-HT540 7.1 Speakers.

The 605 w/speakers comes to a lil under $700 if you know where to shop.
The 705 w/speakers might be maybe $100-$200 more

BUT THEY SOUND AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!

in that price range, yeah stick with onkyo receivers! You could probably afford to splurge a little more on the speakers too with certain Onkyo's

Default I need help too....

Greetings all, I was going to ask that same question but someone else did. More to the point, what kind of reciever is built to complement BD? I have an OK, not crappy, not great, Panasonic 5.1 system that sounds fine, but I am wondering about 7.1 or even 9.1, has anyone else bought a reciever just for there new BD player?

Good question. I have the Yamaha RXV 659 and send the audio from the Sammy 1200 5.1 analog into the Yamaha's 5.1 analog input's and I am wondering if buying the Onkyo 650 would be much of an improvement ?

I was in the same boat. I just sold my old (Ok) Sony 5.1 system and upgraded to my new Denon AVR-1508 and Definitive Pro 600 system-They sound great. For yours and my price range. I bought it at Bestbuy. I did also consider Klipsch Quintet III. (A little ear piercing for me though)

Have you considered just upgrading your fronts and center channel and waiting until you have another 750-1500 to do the Sub and rears?

Center - 1 @ Axiom VP150 v2 - http://axiomaudio.com/vp150_main.html
US$408

Fronts - 2 @ Axiom Millennia M60 v2 Tower - http://axiomaudio.com/m60ti_main.html
US$990

That's US$1398

Then you could move the JVC fronts to your 6th and 7th channels to have 7.1

In another year when you upgrade the other speakers you could go with the following:

Rears - 2 @ Axiom M3 v2 - http://www.axiomaudio.com/m3ti_mainb.html
US$300

Sub - 1 @ SVS PB12-Plus/2 - http://www.svsound.com/products-sub-box-plus2.cfm
US$1099

That's another $1399

Audiophile level system - aural bliss.

Alternately if you want to do everything at once you could go for the following:

Fronts and rears - 4 @ Axiom M3 v2 - http://www.axiomaudio.com/m3ti_mainb.html
US$600

Center - 1 @ Axiom VP100 v2 - http://axiomaudio.com/vp100_main.html
US$255

Sub - 1 @ Hsu VTF-2 MK3 - http://hsuresearch.com/products/vtf-2-mk3.html
US$499

That's US$1354

Good luck - let us all know which way you go.

For the record I have all Paradigm speakers and I would recommend them highly too, but for that sort of budget I'd go internet dealer...and one that's well known. Axiom give you 30 days in home trial.
