I always get giddy with a special sort of excitement whenever a pre-order goes up for a silent film.

Same here.

I also agree about doing the separate Keaton films. There are also other silent films included as special features of sorts on some releases if you wanted to include those.

Ten Commandments (Silent version included in the 6-Disc Ultimate Collector's Edition)
Wizard of Oz (Several silent films included in the 3-Disc Emerald Edition)
Ben-Hur (Silent version included in the Ultimate Collector's Edition)

I would love to see a few Louise Brooks films Blu. Pandora's Box is in my top ten of all time favourite films and needs a release and Diary of a Lost Girl and Beggars of Life would be essential releases for me as well.

Thanks for this thread. I think I'll have to check out "Die Niebelungen," I remember seeing pictures of the Siegfried and the dragon section of the movie many years ago and I always was curious about where that came from. Sounds like a great movie.

I hope someone releases "The Last Laugh" at some point, that is one of my favorite silent movies and I have been putting off buying it cause I don't really want a DVD of a movie like that which is so historically notable that it seems like a bluray release must be inevitable. "Fall of the House of Usher" and "Faust" seem like two more no-brainers, but who knows if we'll see either.

EDIT: Wow, the masters of cinema release of Passion of Joan of Arc doesn't have the Richard Einhorn score? That was one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard, silent film or not...guess I'll have to get the criterion DVD instead.

Great thread! What about Moroder's version of Metropolis. Would that still count? I know the soundtrack has audio now, but it's still applied to a silent film.

Just wanted to pop in here and I say I love this thread. Been really getting into silent films lately and it's nice to have a convenient place where I know what's out.

Thanks jasonjl!

I recommend the Pickford set. Sparrows is a fantastic film. It has tragically UN-hip lead ins designed to make silent films relevant for kids. But you can skip past those.

What about The Jazz Singer -- it's mostly silent, with audio for several songs.

Actually saw that last night for the first time. Wonderful disc -- the film looks great and the sound portions are very clear. Corny maybe, but a very enjoyable film. And an important part of movie history.

Sparrows was on TCM's Silent Sunday Night (the best thing on TV!) the other night. Really got into it... but had to tap-out since us on the East Coast do have to work in the morn!

But, it was really good. Sucked me in, had me cursing Monday!

I don't see why Cohen wouldn't release their own Blu-rays. It may take a while to go through them all, but surely they'd want to get some money back on their investment via home video. Even Kino is releasing their own Phantom despite a previous release from Image, for example.

I don't have this particular version, however, it appears to be Region B locked
