Default Speaker Recommendations

I am in the process of completing my Home Theatre setup and need some speaker recommendations. I currently have a Sony KDS60XBR2, PS3, Wii, and for a receiver I just ordered the Onkyo TX-SR805. I wanted to do 7.1 with all the rear and side speakers in the ceiling. The front can be towers along with a solid sub and center. As far as price is concerned? Not sure but it should match up with what I current have, mid-price point.
I want to make my blu movies sound awesome!!!

Thanks,

Look into Yamaha stuff, I went with it and got 7.1 and receiver for about $1500 off ebay.

Thanks,
An exact budget would be helpful. You basically have a lot to choose from so doing a little research would be beneficial. Someone mentioned Klipsch and that could be an option but I do suggest hearing them in person as they are a love/hate kind of speaker brand.

You could look into internet direct brands for a great bang for your buck system. SVS, Ascend Acoustics, Aperion Audio, Rockets, etc. would be good to look into.

For subs definitely check out SVS subwoofers or Hsu Research subs, those two brands will be your best options for value and performance.

Also, if you do end up doing some research you can search specific model reviews through www.ecoustics.com, which has a great search engine for reviews.

Other than that I think some information about room size, budget, and listening habits would help those here help you out on your quest for great sound.

agreed.

Unless you buy a speaker "system" which usually includes all the speakers together for a total price, you would want to buy them individually. Two Fronts, One Center, Surrounds, Subwoofer...depending on how much you can spend (budget) we can help to determine which speaker you should look at.

It will be difficult to find a good 7.1 system (with 4 in-wall/ceiling speakers) with that budget. I would instead look for a 5.1 system, and not do ceiling speakers. I think you will be more satisfied with the results.

Most good speakers don't come in sets, you will need to buy them individually. I'd say you'll need about $3000 for a really good 7.1 setup.

That's a good budget to work with, for satellite speakers the Kef system mentioned above is a great system and Kef is a great brand. But, if speaker size is not a concern I'd look elsewhere.

I've heard the Ascend Acoustics Speakers (Internet Direct) and was impressed with what I heard. You may want to check them out. You can make up a nice system with that. The CMT-340 SE for the fronts and center and the CBM-170 SE for the surround speakers would make a great system. Then just add a sub like the SVS PB12-NSD and you'd be all set with a great sounding bang for your buck system.

You can also check out different speaker brands at an electronics store. Kef, Energy, NHT, Monitor Audio, Paradigm, etc. would be different brands to look into as well if you go for listening tests.

Thanks for all the advice. I have decided to just do 5.1 instead of 7.1.
Anyone hear any good in-ceiling rear speakers, my house came prewired for this. The center channel has to be small as well because it is going in the center drawer of my BDI Novia stand.

Thanks,
I highly recommend that you actually go out and audition speakers for yourself. The speakers will have a larger influence on the sound than any other component in your system and good sound is a very subjective topic. The right speakers for your system are the ones that sound best to you. You may not like what someone else loves.

Well I completed purchasing my speakers. I ended doing 5.1 with

2- Polk Audio RTi10 Towers(sounded good to me at the store)
1- Polk Audio CSi A4 center
1- Polk Audio DWS Pro 600 Subwoofer
2- Monitor Audio Radius 90 surrounds

Thanks for the advice on going to a store to take a listen.
I am waiting on a few cables from monoprice to finish it up.

I can't wait to play Pearl Harbor on my PS3 to hear them go; go blu!!!
