Default Looking for a new receiver

I am looking for a new receiver to replace my Onkyo TX-SR606 receiver after its HDMI board issues. My Onkyo displays No Signal on the TV and now takes up to 30 min or more to display a signal. Also won’t display 1080p unless I hook up directly to the TV so been forced to use 1080i on PS3, but I have PS4 straight to the TV with an optical cable for audio. I have a 5.1 setup with all Polk speakers which are listed below. I use the receiver for my Comcast DVR, PS4, and PS3 for movies and games. I also sometimes connect my laptop. I'm satisfied with my speakers. My entertainment room is 18 feet by 20 feet. My budget would probably be up to $500 or $600. I don’t think I want to get another Onkyo. My TV isn’t 3D or 4K capable, but it seems many receivers support them in case I upgrade my TV down the road. Should I not worry about getting a Dolby Atmos capable receiver if I don’t have ceiling speakers? Receiver recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

My current set up is:
TV: Samsung UN65FH6001FXZA 65" 1080p LED
Front Towers: Polk TSI300 (x 2)
Center: Polk CSI A4
Subwoofer: Polk PSW 125
2 Rears: Polk OWM3 (x 2)

You "might" try to see if yours is covered under Onkyo's repair program, supposed to be for AVR made 09-12...but worth a shot.

Why not another Onkyo? Onkyo includes a Roku ready and Apple TV ready remote.

I would look into Yamaha's less expensive receivers. I recently bought a budget one for $200 and have been more than happy with it so I'm sure their step up from mine are even better. I have a Polk speaker setup and it sounds fantastic.

Just go to Amazon and type in Yamaha receivers and it will bring up the current models. I just now noticed we have the same fronts

Mine may be eligible since I got it on Amazon in Jan 09. But I don't want to want to be without a receiver for who knows how long it takes for them to get it and send it back. Could be 3 weeks or more. I think I'd rather just get a newer receiver to replace it immediately.

As for another Onkyo, I wasn't sure because of the common HDMI board issues with mine and others. I did hear the Onkyo 636 has been reviewed well though. Also been considering Yamaha and Denon as alternatives.

I'll add another plug for Yamaha. I've enjoyed my Aventage 3000 series, tons of features and excellent build quality. I think you can get the base model Aventage for around $650 now.

Yup, Amazon has the RX-A740 for $650.
I love my Aventage too.

Thanks for some of the comments so far.

That Yamaha RX-A740 does seem impressive. Would it be better than another Yamaha such as the RX-V477?

I also have been really impressed by some of the reviews for the Sony STR-DN1050 Receiver. It's on sale for $475 at Amazon and Best Buy.

I wouldn't dare buy another Onkyo, especially after all the problems that SideEffect34 had experienced previously with that brand, nor have it repaired either! The OP had made the right decision, to buy new receiver.

I wouldn't even consider a Dolby Atmos receiver right now because, it will be way out of your price range. Sony, Yamaha, and Denon have decent receivers for $600.00 or less, but they may not be their latest models.

My integra might have just bit the dust also! It's 4 yrs old. Not old enough IMO!

I'd suggest looking accessories4less.com where you can get factory refurbs for great prices and warranties. That's what I'm gonna look into.

Most people are reporting a 7 day turn around. My 707 and 807 would have been back in my possession in 7 days, if FedEx didn't suck.

Filled out the online form(took about 60 seconds).

Boxes to ship them to the repair facility were on my porch in 2 days.

FedEx called me on a Friday to tell me the driver attempted delivery Tues(7 days after they were picked up), Wed and Thurs...and they would not be attempting to deliver anymore. No door tags...nothing.

Onkyo provided the boxes and paid shipping both ways.
