I remember a couple years ago when Sony released their first bravia tvs. These were their top of the line sets and truely were very nice. Now it seems like every tv I can find by Sony is a Bravia. So, did sony name all of their TVs bravia?

My 27" CRT Sony is a WEGA..... Bravia's are the Sony LCD line.

From what I gather, Bravias are the LCD panels which are fully specced for HD (ie with HDMI) I have an old Sony HD LCD in the bedroom with only component connections and it's a WEGA. Their later flat CRTs were also labelled as WEGAs.

http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...categoryId=559 By the way, "Trinitron" actually referred to a specific CRT technology with a specific patent. Sony may have at one point only be manufacturing Trinitron TVs, but it's not correct to infer that they just branded all their TVs "Trinitron" -- it wasn't just a marketing name. enjoy gandalf ![]() |

My Sony LCoS (SXRD) projector is also labeled as a Bravia, but it's a Japanese model so it's possible they might not be labeled as such in the US.
Edit: looks like it is labeled as a Bravia in the US according to a quick google search. Last edited by jd213; 12-03-2007 at 12:54 AM. |

yes, i know trinitron is name due to the way their crt is made differently from others which make it references standard (until now i think many filmmaker still like to use them for on-site playback) and they are flat vertically which at that period of time almost all crt are slightly cone.
but they also use it as a marketing name. wega are those flat screen crt series and those earlier lcd tv. |

B-R-A-V-I-A stands for "Best Resolution Audio Visual Integrated Architecture"
BRAVIA is a Sony brand used to market its high-definition LCD televisions as well as front and rear projection TVs. All new Sony high-definition flat-panel LCD televisions in North America now carry the BRAVIA logo. The BRAVIA brand is also used on mobile phones, including the FOMA SO903iTV, developed by Sony Ericsson for NTT DoCoMo.[1][2] The name BRAVIA replaces the "LCD WEGA" brand name which Sony LCD TVs used up until Summer 2005 (early promotional photos exist of the first BRAVIA TVs still bearing the WEGA name). Yes, all Sony LCDs are Bravias. However, they have about 3-4 different lines (M series,V series, XBR etc) with XBR being the top.
