if the picture with the girl standing to the side of the TV is any indication that TV has wretched viewing angles!

Damn I love Sony. I may as well just give them my bank account routing number now.

It's a photo... the reflected flash is the main light source, the brightest TV in the world will look that dim in that particular composition.

you think so? the tv is almost to its side, i would say the viewing angle is pretty good for such an angle

"edit" - Actually, i might agree with you after taking another look.

low contrast ratio, horrible viewing angles, max. 1080i.

this thing might be nice to look at when its off, but i prefer my tvs to look good when they are on.

yeah... and from that angle my Panny LCD is still as bright as from in front... thats not an extreme angle as far as modern LCDs are concerned

Thanks for posting these! I'm always looking for any available info on the XBR-8. That's been my next set from the day I read the specs.

I believe the W-1 above will become the XBR-6 in 40,46 and 52" sizes when it comes to America, based on these press materials: Sony Press Photos

personally I think panny's 1 inch thick plasmas are a lot more impressive... especially since they are that thickness all the way through

Looks ok, 1080i resolution is a bit iffy though.

It is 9.9mm flush all the way around. The stand attached to the lcd is the part thats sticking out. This tv has a lot more features and much higher refresh rate and contrast ratio

they can claim all the contrast ratios they want... a panny plasma will still top it in every aspect of picture quality.
