Yes! Yes! Yes!

This 1977 version of The Island of Dr. Moreau has been one of my faves since childhood, so my prayers have finally been answered.

Ahhhh... Barbara Carrera.

Even though I figured this was a lock for a release here sooner than later, I picked up the UK disc because the price at the time was about equivalent to what I'd pay for a Kino or Shout edition.
I expect the Kino will use the same MGM master on the UK disc, which I thought looked great and a nice step up from the Midnight Movies DVD of more than a decade back.

Fans of the film, of which I'm one, should be very happy with the Kino when they get it.

This will be a semi-blind buy for me. I caught the first 40 minutes or so on TV and really liked what I saw. I know it's a flawed film from various reviews I've read over the years but I don't care - can't wait to watch the rest of it.

Although it's not really in the same league as Island of Lost Souls, I'm delighted Kino is releasing it and will certainly be picking it up.

I keep being surprised and delighted by Kino's announcements for this year.

It would be interesting if they could find the original ending - either as a bonus feature or bridge to be included.

Wow, looks like Kino is filling a lot of holes in my collection this year. Awesome.

Just watched this flick. Good effort with some nice imagery (and some INSANE animal stunts) but for me it pales in comparison to both the 30's original and the 90's insanity. It's just kind of generic, and I don't think the big change to the last act works very well or makes much sense. The blu is a little bright for my taste like most Kino releases but otherwise looks nice.

So... news article on the main page says Olive is re-releasing this, on DVD only, with a brand new commentary track. Uhm, what?

I've only seen TIODM '77 once on DVD, many years ago. I was not impressed with the film. Though I liked the '70's vibe, the make-up effects & storyline weren't that great. I find both the '96 version & the 1930's TIOLS far superior to this version.

That being said, I may revisit this again at some point - if only to watch it one additional time & to compare it more carefully to the other two versions.

Kinda weird, yeah, but DVDs still sell better than BDs so I guess for an older movie Olive see an audience. I wonder how good the commentary is, I like a nice commentary. Wouldn't pay much for it though.

I hate to be a bother but I didn’t see anything in this thread about an ‘anomaly’ at the 42 minute mark. At 42minutes, right before Andrew yells stop it, there is a bluish streak mid screen. I’m certainly not complaining, but if there is an issue with my disc I’d like to go ahead and get it fixed. I’ve rewatched the scene 3 times and it’s consistand. It is not artifacts, I can only describe it as a flash of blue mid screen where Dr. Moreau’s whip is about to strike. I don’t know, maybe it’s fade on the print. The cave scene around the 53minute mark the screen is blue In the same shade on the right side a few inches.
If anyone can confirm it’s like that on other copies, I’d be grateful.
