I know III gets a lot of flak but I've always enjoyed it for the most part. I wish it was getting a standalone release with a featurette on the controversy surrounding the ending but that's probably too much to hope for.

Honestly, I think III is better than II.

Both are still bad movies.

Yeah, they're terrible, but 2 at least has some good effects. The vomit demon in particular is fun.

I concur. I revisted both back to back a couple months ago and while III is somewhat redeemed by some mirror/doppelganger shennanies that remain genuinely creepy, II, taken as a whole, is quite possibly one of the shittiest movies I've ever seen, and I've seen a metric ton of garbage.

I know. I grew up with III, it's part of my childhood and teenage years, nothing in the world's gonna make me hate it

Never liked II much for some reason, so hadn't seen it for many years. Decided to revisit the film in HD a while back. Although Julian Beck is pretty creepy and effective in the role, I thought the movie was dreadful, way worse than I remembered.

Whoa, I'm surprised by all the Poltergeist II hate! It doesn't quite live up to the original, no, but it's still a good film in its own right. For me it's in the same category as such films as Freddy's Revenge and RoboCop 2: inferior sequels which are dark and weird enough to be of interest.

Probably the reason there is no special edition. From what I understand the director has made claims regarding the original ending/reshoots/etc. that go against evidence dug up on this sitehttp://www.poltergeistiii.com/originalending.html

I spent an afternoon down the rabbit hole reading about all that stuff a few months ago haha. It could make for a really interesting featurette imo but the director seems really reluctant to revisit the film at all. Can't blame him, really.

Yeah that's a good site with info on all three of the original films. One who likes these movies should check it out since it doesn't look like we'll ever get any real behind the scenes docs on any of them.

To this day, when people say the words "guilty pleasure", I think of Poltergeist III.

Odd, considering it's never really given me much pleasure.

It's certainly a nutty ride, and it's got Tom Skerritt in full Evan Drake-mode, so I do revisit it every few years.

Ah, what the hell. Be nice to say goodbye to another DVD.

I like II a lot. I saw it at a screening 2 months prior to its theatrical release. It has different music at the end - though still Goldsmith it was scored differently. As a point of interest I had always hoped it would be included as a bonus.

II however is cheap and abysmal on so many levels. It ripped off elements from THE HERETIC with the girl seeing a psychiatrist and living in a high rise apartment as well.
Nancy Allen has always been a terrible actress, and I felt sorry for Heather looking bloated from being so sick. It's a sad drop from what was presented prior. Even the music sucks. Yet, I would wager it probably is better than the re-make of Poltergeist that coming out - that looks horrible.

Cool. Do you remember if the screening you saw had any of the deleted scenes that didn't make to the official theatrical version?

Great news! I wish Poltergeist III was getting a standalone release since I have the first and second Blu-rays already. But maybe this will be cheap.

No extra or different scenes. It was the same film except for different music for the end sequence.

I remember bringing my brother to the screening. There was a roped off area (the best seats in the balcony) What I thought was an elderly woman carrying a huge bucket of popcorn wearing a poncho was allowed into that section. .... turned out to be Andy Warhol

Weird that they're putting it out themselves instead of licensing it to Scream Factory...

Julian Beck is fantastic in Poltergeist II, especially considering he was dying at the time. The song he sings is so awesomely creepy.
