First impressions:
- Online gameplay is smooth. - Offline multiplayer feels like the framerate's dropped down. - Wii U Pro Controller could've been a fantastic controller if Nintendo had used it for an alternate choice. - Music is pretty cool and a breeze of air. - The dialogue boxes and its "language" are a bit annoying. - Game while enjoyable feels too boring, lifeless and serious without voices. It doesn't make sense why this game doesn't have voiceovers for its characters when other games out there do and it would have suited them perfectly. Same goes for the lack of voice chat. |

It definitely is! The game should've retailed in US and Canada for $40 equally because it just feels too empty of a game.
On the online mode you have up to 5 maps although from experience I've only got to play 2 of them most of the time.. er, one to be exact (the other rarely ever came up). Offline you've got the Story Mode which is really dull and has 27 chapters. Just don't buy it for $60/CND$70. |

Yes, this game is really fun. The solo missions are gradually harder by level and then the final boss ups things... considerably. I pre-ordered last E3 and paid C$50 for it, whereas it is now C$70+tax in-stores.
The Amiibo interaction is well-done. Using the girl will open-up 20 solo missions using the charge gun. The inkling will open-up 16 missions to replay as the all-powerful squid and 4 with limited ink (very tough!). The boy will open-up 20 solo missions to replay using the roller. When you win/complete the challenge you get coins to buy online items and either gear or secret blueprints for weapons (which have same stats are regular version so it's only an image swap) for the boss stage redo. The online is good but still needs some fixes (and it's at v1.2 after the first patches). Connection timeouts/weird errors happen during team-formation once an hour. I have had errors at the ends of matches 5-6 times. While waiting for teams to form you can play a little inkling jump game which is fun and stages state are stored for hours while playing between online matches. The main gameplay is painting the stage but also using strategy to kill the other team so that you end-up with the most surface painted after 3 mins. You will earn around 500 xp/coins from level 1-10 for your painting/kills and then start getting closer to 1000 per match after level 10. There are 8(?) main stages that will refresh every 2 hours(?) and no matter what you are doing at the time (anything not-in-match, like buying stuff or loitering), you will be shuffled over to the annoying Squid Girls video board where you need to mash A around 20 times to end the time-waste. No skip button. Oh and you get to see it every time you start-up the game. Match-making itself is odd, but it is nice that it is global, so if you play late at night you may have all JP players playing. You can be grouped with level 20 players from very early on (level 5 or 6 for me, IIRC). They will have awesome guns and 4 slot gear. You will die a lot. Lag while playing has happened around 1 in 50 matches... you will shoot ink at walls and it won't appear until seconds later. Players max at level 20, but I would guess it would take 40 hours to get that high. At level 10 you open up ranked online games, where if your team wins you'll get over 1000xp/coins and if you lose you get zilch. Actual online gameplay mechanics have some weapons that are OP. I'll use something like the roller and fling ink with it at an enemy (same level) and they won't die. And then 30s later it happens to me and I die instantly. If you have something like the Roller or a short range gun there may be spots on the map where you can't escape your pursuer(s) unless you are killed. Constant Spawn kills are possible because there should be an edge around your Spawn Point but there isn't. My worst team loss was 90% to less than 10% for us but after 3 minutes of pain it is over. A good thing is the Squid Jump, where if you've died and see a teammate 50% across the map, you can tap them and then you will jump to join them. But if an enemy is waiting, so will be creamed instantly 95% of the time before even materializing. Besides dozens of weapons to buy with your coins to use online, you can also buy items for your head/body/feet at stores and as you gain levels, they will start to have empty slots that you need to fill by getting XP online. The only problem is after leveling 2000xp or 6000xp, the randomizer is horrible. I have 3 items where the 2 empty slots are the exact same stat boost/functionality, which I guess is another way to get you to spend your coins. I am not sure how stacking something like 'main weapon save ink' actually works because the tips say you should try for a wide variety of boosts. I know they have added items like the inkbrush recently and will be adding more stuff into July and August, so if you feel like sinking some time into the game, I would recommend it at a good price. Splatoon has officially been cracked open. It looks like there are 10 maps on the disc, with only two unreleased (Camp and Skyscraper)
Here is the skyscraper stage in full: There are 33 unreleased weapons currently on the disc in some form. Some of which have complete descriptors (and may or may not be actually complete) and others which have incomplete descriptors (and may or may not be actually complete). Here is the full list of them:
There are also Ranked mode game type selection images: Splat Zones Tower Control Rainmaker UPDATE: Rainmaker Mode revealed: In {0E0000000300020000}Rainmaker{0E000000030002ffff}, both teams compete to snag the Rainmaker.{0E000000040000}Once you've got it, the goal is to carry it into the other team's base! So as soon as the battle begins, grab that {0E0000000300020000}Rainmaker{0E000000030002ffff}! It's guarded by a shield, though, so you'll need to bust it out first. Once you snag it, head for the other team's base. And be quick about it! If you run out of time or get splatted, the {0E0000000300020000}Rainmaker{0E000000030002ffff} will be dropped.{0E000000040000}Its shield will also reactivate. The {0E0000000300020000}Rainmaker{0E000000030002ffff} is crazy heavy, so you can't {0E0000000300020000}Super Jump {0E000000030002ffff}while carrying it.{0E000000040000}Your teammates will have to watch your back! The {0E0000000300020000}Rainmaker {0E000000030002ffff}can also shoot ink like an {0E0000000300020000}Inkzooka{0E000000030002ffff}, so you can clear a path! The closer you get to the enemy base while holding the {0E0000000300020000}Rainmaker{0E000000030002ffff}, {0E000000040000}the lower your {0E0000000300020000}goal distance{0E000000030002ffff} will drop. If the battle ends without anyone carrying the Rainmaker to the goal,{0E000000040000}the team with the {0E0000000300020000}lowest goal distance{0E000000030002ffff} will win!
