I just finished watching Jay and Silent Bob, for the first time ever. I have to say that with the exception of the 9/19 releases, this is the best movie PQ wise I've seen so far. It doesn't necessarily blow the recent Sony titles out of the water but it is far more consistant. There's no macroblocking or posterization that I noticed, and overall the film looked really clean. There's some very slight grain present, but I only noticed it when I was really close to the screen.
The audio sounded great in all of its Uncompressed PCM glory. I really liked that there was lots of discrete separation between the channels and lots of panning among the front three channels. My personal favorite is when sounds travel diagonally across the room, and Jay and Silent Bob did this a few times which was pleasing to the ears. I can't wait to view the rest of the 9/19 releases. Also at the beginning of the disc, there are trailers for Pearl Harbor, Hero, Gone in 60 Seconds, Flightplan, and Pirates of the Caribbean. We have dates for two of them, where are the other three?!? I just finished watching this, and have to say, it was probably the most disappointing PQ wise. There were very few scenes that really "popped" as HD. The audio, of couse, was supurb, and it more than enough to make this a necessary upgrade for fans. But the picture quality just wasn't there. I think this is directly related to the filming style of Kevin Smith. He never aims for shots that wow or vibrant colors. Everything is very dirty and natural. The Movie Showcase feature probably showed the only 3 parts that actually wowed, which is a damn good thing they included it. Otherwise, no one would know this was an HD flick.

![]() ![]() That was one of their Movie Showcase scenes, and it looks really good. Nothing will real pop out (*giggle*), but the vinyl looks really shinny and detailed. This is really the first Blu-ray I have watched were I have been disappointed with the PQ. But again, I think it is the best they could do with the master without artificially increasing the color scale. |
