When the guy scoring these films starts having difficulty coming up with new material it's a pretty good sign you're just doing the same movie again and again and again and again and again. Maybe they should just stop making superhero movies? Or at least inject a little freshness into it, play with the many multiple timelines. If you're gonna insist on having Batman everywhere for example make one of those outlets the timeline where he's locked up. Just do something that's not good vs evil vs the most ill equipped prisons and asylums ever conceived.

I actually enjoyed the scores for B v S and MoS so I will wait with bated breath to hear who Snyder, Terrio and Affleck select to score Justice League.

Not really a bad thing. I thought the BvS score was a big improvement over his MoS one (which worked fine in the context of the movie, but was unbearable to listen to on its own), so I guess he's going out on a good note (no pun intended).

Hopefully Junkie XL takes up the mantle for the rest of these DC movies, or at least the JLA ones.

If you think there are too many superhero films, thats your opinion and thats fine.
But Zimmer feeling he is repeating himself is not evidence of that in any way, shape, or form. Zimmer has been recycling and reusing his work for decades. Listen to Drop Zone and then Pirates of the Caribbean, just for one example. Practically the exact same theme, with a few tweaks.

What are you going on about? So because Hans Zimmer has retired from comic book film scores, they should stop making comic book films!? Have you seen Batman v Superman, it tackles many issues and is far from just another villain trying to take over the world. It's also much different than the Nolan Batman trilogy, which are much different than Guardians of the Galaxy, which is much different than Avengers, which is much different than The Winter Soldier, which is much different than Days of Future Past, which is much different than Hellboy, etc.

Comic book films have become their own genre, but they are all quite different from each other, and are really made up of several sub genres. 4-5 comic book films a year is really not that much when you actually think about it. That's less than 1 movie every two months. That leaves lots of weekends for other films to get released and make money.

If you don't like them, that's fine, but lets not act like they are stopping other films from being made or watched. Comedy has really taken a nosedive this decade, but I'm not crying for them to stop being produced, as once in a while you get a gem like Pee Wee's Big Holiday.

IMO, the Zimmer's scores for the Dark Knight trilogy are as impressive as John Williams's scores for the original Star Wars trilogy.

He only went solo on TDKR which was the weakest score (though still good overall). A lot of best stuff in TDK and BB were James Newton Howard.

Well, I wouldn't go that far. Williams in the late 70's/early 80's was on a roll no one will likely ever match(Star Wars, Superman, Empire, Raiders, E.T., Jedi, Temple of Doom).

That being said, Zimmer's(and Howard's) work on the Dark Knight Trilogy was terrific. Batman Begins' score took some time to grow on me since it was so different from what Elfman and Goldenthal did with the previous films, but the way he expanded on it in the 2 sequels was impressive.

I'm actually kinda sad he's stepping away from superhero flicks since overall they've been solid. But maybe he just feels like he's repeating himself at this point. To be honest, the music in the Batmobile chase in BvS did sound very similar to the chase from Batman Begins.

This is disappointing. I was hoping he'd do a score for Wonder Woman with less electronic elements and instead do something more in line with his Gladiator score.

Just as long as they keep his Wonder Woman theme. One of the most badass portions of the movie.

I imagine he's had his fill of the genre though. Three Nolan Batman films, one Spider-Man film, and two DCU films is more than enough contribution to the genre.

I found that score to be overrated. He kinda cannibalized it in TDKR and MoS to an extent, but luckily Interstellar was a return to form -- it's easily one of his top five scores.

His work on Chappie was also pretty cool.

Yeah I was pleasantly surprised with that score (and the movie overall). Not all that memorable compared to some Zimmer's other recent work (like his Spidey theme in ASM2, which was as good as than anything in the Raimi movies), but perfectly fine on its own merits.

He should retire from film scoring altogether (and take his various "pets" with him).

BvS and Amazing Spider-Man 2 were absolute Aces. Some of my favorite work of his.
