Default Blockbuster has bait and switched again

Well BB did it again. They have now jacked their price by 20% for the plan I had. First they took away my two free rental coupons a month, then they put limits on in-store returns and now a 20% price increase. I immediately cancelled. If they are going to screw me, I will return the favor. I will either pick up Netflix now or do without for awhile. I got tired of having to have 80 titles in my queue just to get a movie and then taking months and months to ever get the blu-rays I wanted.

WTF? I just got this in my mailbox. I'll be cancelling as well. They aren't that great, and their store that I go to smells like an old high school gym room.

As a BLOCKBUSTER Total Access™ subscriber, it's always easy to have the right movie during this holiday season with more than 75,000 titles, including great new releases like Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, The Bourne Ultimatum and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.

We know that during this busy time of year the convenience of BLOCKBUSTER Total Access is especially important to you. Have your movies delivered right to your door. If you want new movies right away, exchange in-store*. And with free shipping both ways and no late fees, it's easy to enjoy all the movies you want for as long as you want.

To continue to bring you the unmatched convenience of both online and in-store DVD rentals, your monthly subscription fee will change from $24.99 to $34.99. This adjustment† will go into effect on your next billing cycle on or after December 27, 2007. The benefits of your subscription plan will remain the same.

I sent them this email. Probably they won't care, but at least I sent it.

Are you pulling my leg on this? A $10 increase on my service? Is this for real or did someone send me spam disguised as a Blockbuster email?

I like your service and all, but I will not renew at $10 extra per month. Sorry. Just not worth it in my book. I dealt with the increase a few months ago and saw no increase in service (a decrease actually, but that's neither here nor there), but $10 more per month is just pushing it too far.

Please explain why you feel it is justified to increase a subscription by that amount for your services, and then maybe I'll consider renewing. Until then, consider my relationship with Blockbuster online and in-store a thing of the past.

If this is true then I'm canceling and going to Netflix too! (the account is under my sisters email).
Blu-rays are horrible there as they are always on Wait. And even if there is one available the system skips it and sends a dvd marked more than 10 down!

Everyone that cancels please send an email to them stating where you are going!

Never had a problem with Netflix

Except for the USPS stealing a blu-ray every now and then

that's good to hear. I'm tired of blockbusters waiting. And instore isn't much better. They get some new releases like a week or weeks later (I just saw Ratat. and Cars today). And the older releases are 95% the same available since June.

Hate to tell you, but it can take weeks and weeks to get BD's from Netflix, too.

I haven't experienced that yet. I put movies in my queue a good 2-3 months before they release.

Despite getting the movies I want on the queue very early (about 6-8 weeks), I still have to wait very long for Netflix to deliver... May be Footloose has a "sweetie" looking out for him...

Amazingly I just received this reply from Ballbusters.

Quote:
Thanks for contacting BLOCKBUSTER Online Customer Care.

Our goal is to strike the right balance between providing great value to our subscribers and getting a fair return for the company and our shareholders. We want to provide a variety of subscription plans to meet the needs of all our customers, both in-store and online. It's important for us to give consumers the most convenient access to media entertainment, whether that’s through our stores or by mail, and are dedicated to doing that with flexible plans and pricing.

We've reviewed our pricing structure and have found that to get a better balance of providing great value for Total Access subscribers while still making it affordable for us, as of December 27, 2007, we have restructured the prices of our Total Access subscription plans.

Please note that we're not changing any plan benefits; you'll continue to get all the same great benefits and value from Total Access. Of course, you're always free to change your plan.
I just cancelled and upped my Netflix package. Screw Blockbuster. For $34.99 a month I can buy 2 or more BD movies (with the BOGO sales we have). Hope they lose a lot of subscribers over this.

This is the second price increase in 3 months. I can't stand Blockbuster anymore either. It's time to cancel my membership with them for the second and most likely final time.
