Special note: We do want to address our new transfer specifically here to manage expectations. Our 2K scan was made from the original film negative and retains the grain and softness you would have seen during its original release in 1974. We have not applied any digital noise reduction and restored the original 1.85:1 aspect ratio used in US theaters. Unfortunately, the negative had suffered some damage over the years but we have spent a lot of extra resources / costs to clean it up the best we could. We’re pleased with our results and hope you will enjoy the presentation.
In our efforts to make sure our overall release could be as comprehensive and definitive as possible, we have also included the prior HD version on Disc 2 (and corrected some audio sync issues it had) for those who may prefer it’s 1.78 aspect ratio.

Isn't the negative lost? I recall (back when dinosaurs reigned supreme) that the expectation of a future, appreciably improved BR releases of this title was "pie in the sky". Looking forward to more details, but have tempered expectations (especially given the number of releases of this masterpiece).

This was such a pleasant surprise! It's one of my all-time favorites and the current Blu-ray is pretty mediocre! Between this and Bubba Ho-Tep, I'm a happy camper.

I watched this for the first time LAST WEEK. I loved it, and would put it very close to the top of all slashers I've ever seen. Fortunately, I didn't buy a copy yet. I am assuming this will be the best by far.

You have got to be kidding me. Writing a release of your supposed favorite horror film of all time off before any information is even released, only because it's SF. Seems pretty petty to me, especially considering that all other releases are horrible and it's basically a guarantee that SF will be remastering it.

Agree, though they seem to be the least essential of all previously released extras.
