I hope SF give this a 4K OCN scan, especially if they have enough money to give us 4K scans of interpositives which would look more-or-less the same if they were to scan it in 2K which is supposed to be significantly cheaper.

what for? The current Blu ray looks great already. Wouldn't be surprised if this is a cash grab like Red Dawn. There are other movies that need remasters more or even flat out first time releases more.

The Blu-ray looks decent. This is one of the best King adaptations, it deserves to look amazing. Especially since a lot of B-movie trash (which I love, don't get me wrong) gets fresh OCN scans in 2K or 4K from Arrow and Vinegar Syndrome. The fact that there are other movies that are in bigger need of a revisit doesn't negate what a classic like this deserves, and those movies will get a chance. A hot seller like this will make those possible.

Blu-ray Archduke

![]() ![]() After crashing his car in a snowstorm, Paul Sheldon, a famous historical romance novelist played by James Caan, wakes up in pain to discover that he has two shattered legs and a dislocated shoulder. The first words that he hears are from the woman who has saved his life. “I'm your number one fan.” Annie Wilkes, played by Kathy Bates, is a psychotic ex-nurse who has a childishly naive sense of right and wrong, and who is infuriated that Paul has killed off his longtime literary character, Misery. She holds the disabled author captive at her remote country house by keeping him hooked on pain medication, and devises a plan for him to bring Misery back to life by writing a new novel while locked in his room. When Annie discovers that Paul has been planning an escape, her reaction makes for one of the most physically painful and diabolical moments in cinema history. The 1990 horror drama, Misery, was adapted from a 1987 Stephen King novel and directed by Rob Reiner (Stand By Me, The Princess Bride), who brilliantly utilizes his brand of casually comedic timing and his trademark effectiveness at accentuating the inherent talents of his actors to create a film that flies by at lightning pace despite taking place mostly in the confines of the imprisoned protagonist's bedroom. Kathy Bates is a revelation in this movie, and her Best Actress Academy Award still stands as the biggest Oscar recognition for a King adaptation. Superb supporting parts from Richard Farnsworth, Lauren Bacall, and Frances Sternhagen are icing on the cake. Misery quickly earned the love of mass audiences, who warmed up to Bates's over-the-top quotes and mannerisms, along with Caan's humbled and wrecked underdog. Although this film has its wildly amusing moments and enjoys a prestigious reputation in conventional circles, however, it also proved to be a darkly pioneering landmark of horror movies for decades to come, because its most famous scene proved that sellout audiences were willing to tolerate new levels of violence and sadism. The “torture porn” films of the new millennium, namely Saw and Hostel, are all direct descendants of this adaptation. This movie might seem like an odd choice for me to revisit this weekend after enduring six painful days in a hospital room due to a ruptured appendix and a resultant infection, but I thought about it several times during my stay. More than anything, it captures the terror of being helplessly dependent on the decisions of a nurse, a physician, or another outside party. Annie's signature quote, “Trust me. It's for the best.”, nows sends chills down my spine more than ever. Thankfully, however, because of the strengths of its cast, Misery brings a smile to my face more often than it makes me flinch. This Scream Factory Blu-ray sports a surprisingly beautiful transfer for a film that I've never thought of as particularly good-looking. The snow-covered rural scenery shines, as does the level of detail in character close-ups. The music and the crucial sound effects come across masterfully on the audio presentation. Most of the extras are old hat, but the new Reiner interview and the new Greg Nicotero are both outstanding. Last edited by The Great Owl; 03-12-2018 at 01:06 AM. |

Just ordered the 2 movie set from shout factory with misery and Carrie for $20. I had just found out Carrie is out of print. I also heard that misery goes out of print this year. So this set was a great find.
However I just found out none of the bonus features are on the 2 movie set. So I bought the stand alone release anyway for the bonus features. Just now gotta find Carrie at a cheap price. |
