Blu-ray Duke

This was a film (along with Secretary, City of God, Confidence, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, etc) that I first saw on the Independent Film Channel back when it actually ran interesting off the beaten path films. I vaguely remember liking this so I may need to scoop this one up when it's released.

Great announcement, I've wanted to see this for years. Unfortunately, I see this being another Glengarry Glen Ross. That is, a cheap crapping out of whatever old master is out there. I could tell just by the BD case template in that cover art image. I'd love to be proven wrong, but I'm not counting on it. Of course, being that it's the best we're likely to get, I'll still pick it up for $5 at Target, hopefully on Day 1 like with GGR.

Yeah, fantastic debut film by Alejandro Iñárritu...but I also don't think I can watch it again. Just like in 21 Grams and Babel, he really places all characters through brutal and harsh circumstances that are usually propelled and connected by one incident. Don't think I can stomach having to see the emotional and mental anguish one more time (especially with Amores Perros given it deals a lot with dogs).

I was also hoping for a Criterion release, but I'll get whatever I can get.
Also, it looks as the special features are kept from the first DVD release, which is amazing as the music videos are nice companions for truly memorable songs. |

I've had the UK import for years. You guys say that the transfer is awful, but the film has always looked grungy even on DVD. Unless this new edition gets a full restoration, it will be a marginal improvement (maybe) over the UK import, which is like 7-8 years old already.
