Edison 3d--I'm taking the plunge!

I just ordered the Edison 3d. I'll be using it with a PS3 and my Vizio P75-c1 tv. I will let you 3d junkies who are jonesing(like I am!) for some 3d goodness if this thing actually works or not, and how well it does!

Very interested to hear how this works as next to TV companies putting 3D back in future models, it may be the only hope for future 3D viewing. I was going to make a contribution to their IndieGoGo fund, but this video shows they might not really know what they're doing:

Been keeping an eye out on this. If it does accurately reproduce 3D discs the same way as a 3D set, will probably get one for my den system along with I guess the required 3D bluray player.

Okay, so the item came yesterday. This is a VERY preliminary review, as you will see if you read on, and I promise to make some adjustments and put some real time into getting this thing running as well as I can.

First, the set up was very easy. Let me go through my set up for you:

I'm running a Vizio P75-C1, through an Onkyo Tx-Nr575 a/v receiver and using a PS3 slim strictly for the 3d. I run all my components into the receiver and use HDMI 1 on the tv as the ARC.

I hooked the machine up like this: HDMI cable into the Edison 3d and an HDMI running from the Edison 3d into the receiver. I placed the 3d blu-ray "House of Wax 3d" starring Vincent Price into the PS3. The PS3 recognized my TV as 3d-capable due to the Edison 3d, so I was happy. Then, the movie came on. I immediately noticed two things:

1) I had absolutely NO AUDIO.
2)Flicker was unreal.

In addition, my tv was in "calibrated" mode, and when I turned the glasses on, the picture was DARK as hell. I switched the tv into "VIVID" mode, and the picture brightness was at an acceptable level, but the crosstalk was INSANE, the flickering was AWFUL and the picture looked like EXCREMENT.

Desperate to figure out how I could get some sound, I re-routed everything DIRECTLY to the TV, and....still had no audio. I decided to forget about that problem and concentrate on making the picture look good. Going directly into the TV, the picture improved DRAMATICALLY. The crosstalk wasn't half as bad, but it was still not good. The flicker, however, was STILL THERE, despite me turning up the brightness on my tv to 100.

Now, there are quite a few adjustments you can make via the Edison 3d's menu(which, annoyingly, forces you to utilize an "exit" button every time you make an adjustment, instead of letting you scroll down to make the next change). These adjustments might yet save this thing, but I'm going to need some more time to work with it. I still haven't figured out the audio problem yet, so there's that.

My initial reaction to this thing is negative. I will let you know what happens after I spend a few days making adjustments. One of the problems may just be the movie itself, because newer 3d movies might play better. I will try other films, I'll also try hooking the Edison 3d up to my 4k blu-ray player and see if that works better, but, for now, this is a disappointment and I can't recommend it, especially for the price.

I too am sorry to learn of the problems you are experiencing. I'm wondering this being a plug and play device means having to calibrate your receiver settings since there was marked improvement going directly into your Vizio. Hopefully you might just need to make adjustments on the Edison rather than the set. Also, the glasses need to be adjusted too.

Trying to figure out why the audio is a problem. Stupid question but is the mute button on?

Looked at the attachment you sent and it does mention flickering and what to do.

Update: I hooked the Edison into my LGup970 4K blu-ray player, and while the results were a vast improvement over the PS3, they still weren’t good. I got the flashing to lessen greatly by lowering the backlight AND the brightness, but the 3d effect just wasn’t sharp and the crosstalk was still present. Don’t know if this will work better with a 1080p tv, but probably wouldn’t make much of a difference. Bottom line, after three days of playing with this thing I cant get a satisfactory 3-D experience. Definitely not worth buying.

I should mention that I used a more modern movie, Captain America:The First Avenger 3d, this time around. I noticed something very odd as well: playing the 2d disc and having the machine convert it into 3d was a better 3d experience than just playing the 3d disc itself. Bottom line, this thing is a MESS, especially with the audio problem, which wasn't solved even when being plugged directly into the tv.

Sadly, Edison 3d is a failure. Sorry to disappoint you, my friends. The search for 3d goes on. LOL.

So sorry you had to be our "Guinea Pig" for this. Just hope you can get your money back. Makes one wonder how he got it to work - or that he didn't perfect it except for certain type televisions which he did not emphasize. Refresh rates need to be more than 60? Etc. Who knows

Was hoping so much this would be a solution to the feature not being in most sets down the road. Perhaps it shows there has to be an integration and not just an input.

Again, sorry for your big disappointment and the regret many of us share who were hoping this might be the solution.

Was searching the web to see if there were other devices. One that is now discontinued was called 3D wizard but it was anaglyth so some said the color was faded and had ghosting, though very good depth from the reviews I read.

Audio wise it is probably nothing you can do but typically I'd have a device like this between the receiver and display. I've never connected a player to my TV.

Have you tried disabling all motion flow / lag inducing effects on the input? Or does the TV have a low lag mode? And does the Edison have a sync tuning setting to account for any delay?

My experience is different from yours,I use TV box(DivX Pro 4K) connecting to my VR and get no audio.One day, I bought another VR and get audio from this TV box. I'm a engineer, so I stat to analysis what different between these two VR. I got the old one is not support HDCP-KEY and new one support it. I suppose my guess is correct so I bought HDMI splitter with HDCP and the old one VR can get audio normally(HDMI splitter only cost USD7).

If your display device has not support HDCP-KEY, you can try this.I hope useful to you.

There's no way it can work witgout factoring in the png time. In theory a Basic syncher like the SegaScope 3D would work if it knew when the beginning of the frame was. It somehow needs to pass the frame sync signal into the Arc out from the TV to the syncher device. Audio ARC signals have plenty of room to add 3S sync data, and ARC signals are timed AFTER the TV processes the picture, so it will be in Sync.
