Question 3D (Anaglyph) B&W Movies on Blu-ray?

Are there any 3D black and white movies on blu-ray that use the red and blue 3D glasses? I don't think there were any Technicolor 3D movies back in the day but I could be wrong.

Thanks!

No, because Blu-ray has the superior digital 3D technology and all the vintage 50s-70s 3D films have used that for their respective BD releases. (Some later films, such as Friday the 13th Part 3, use the inferior anaglyph method on BD).

There were several color 3D films from the 50s (Dial M for Murder, House of Wax, Kiss me Kate, etc.)

Thanks for the reply. While the new tech is superior, it comes at a higher cost. Neither my 4K TV nor Blu-ray player support this new tech. I also like the 3D anaglyph style. Maybe because of memories but for 3D, the old style glasses is just fine for me.

3D TVs were out long before 4K TVs were, so you made the choice not to go that route.

Anaglyph 3D is garbage. I'm still mad I bought one particular modern "3D" bluray title only to find it was Anaglyph (no indication on the box that it came with glasses).

Only a few B&W true 3D titles exist on bluray. They do look amazing with the right TV. I hope they never release another anaglyph title again, it is one of those things that gave 3D a bad name.

Well, my $600 Blu-ray player still works fine and I'm not about to replace it. So there was no need to purchase a 3D capable TV and I chose what I thought was good for me. This was not about a debate but what titles were available.

Was about to post the few color titles I knew of, but I didn't see the "B&W" in the thread title. My bad.

The only anaglyph 3D titles I've ever been aware of are Friday the 13th Part 3, Coraline, and The Polar Express. And maybe one or two other CGI-animations I can't recall right now. That's it, sorry.

Ooh, one thing I forgot to check was the region-coding. It looks like this one is Region-B locked.

If you've got a region-B or free player, then no worries. Otherwise, don't pull the trigger.

Kino's BD of THE MASK (1961) is B&W and in anaglyph format, with a fun reproduction of the original MASK glasses that were provided in theaters.

Are you sure the whole film is anaglyph? The review makes it seem like it's just a 16 min extra that is.

Re: THE MASK (1961)

Yes, I believe the Blu-Ray has the film in polarized 3-D (for the 3-D sequences) - maybe the 3-D sequences are presented in anaglyph as an extra, can't recall.

Kino also released a DVD version that only has the film with the 3-D sequences in anaglyph. Since this is one of the very few 3-D films actually released in theaters in anaglyph, that makes the DVD presentation quite authentic.

But I'll still take the huge upgrade the Blu did to make it polarized.

I just found the search feature with an "Anaglyph 3D" option. Not much there than what is already stated here.

I like red blue 3D. It makes it even more gimmicky. That is the fun of it.

Anaglyph 3D hurts my eyes. Especially after being spoiled with how fantastic real 3D is.
