Default Cold Turkey (1971)

The satirical comedy film Cold Turkey (1971) will be released on May 29th, courtesy of Olive Films. The film comes from Norman Lear, and stars Dick Van Dyke, and Bob Newhart among others. The film also features Randy Newman's first score.

Quote:
In the depressed town of Eagle Rock, Reverend Brooks (Dick Van Dyke) spearheads his community's effort to rise to the Cold Turkey challenge. The Valiant Tobacco Company has promised a $25,000 cash prize to any town in America that can quit smoking for 30 days. So Brooks leads the charge in this Battle of the Butts, hoping to become the local hero in the process. However, when ad executive Merwin Wren (Bob Newhart) shows up to undermine his efforts, this wicked comedy kicks into high gear.

I'll be picking this up, saw it on TCM several years ago and really enjoyed it.

This is a great announcement. I never picked up the DVD as it was a garbage release so this makes my day!

I wonder what has been done for restoration, they don't list anything on the Olive films website.
I may hold off until there is more specifics on the quality of the Blu-ray, I too have a dvd of the movie and it's horrible.
Anyone know how Olive Films releases are in terms of quality?

So glad this is coming out on Blu!
Day one purchase for me as I’ve loved this movie since I first saw it in the late 70s.

I would love to see 1969s “The Comic” come out too.

Checked out some clips from Youtube - this movie seems hilarious, might just be forced to grab it asap.

Down to $12.99 at BB, Amazon will probably match soon. The DVD is also on sale for $5.99 at BB.

Amazon had the DVD priced at $5.99, so I ordered it at that price. It should arrive next week.

I originally saw the film at an advance press screening when most of us had never heard of it. It received a wonderful response from the audience of film critics and theater managers. I felt strongly that it would be a hit.

Since this release features a new transfer (certainly different than the 4:3 MOD DVD-R), does it restore the original UA Transamerica "T" at the start or is it just that modern MGM and UA streaks combo?
