Default Obsession (1976) (Collector's Edition)

Obsession Blu-ray

Coming early 2019 from Scream Factory.

Hopefully a remaster since a good region free alternative from Arrow has been available for years.

I'm curious to see what they do with it. I'll probably end up getting it since he's my favorite director. Unless it's the same transfer as Arrow with no interesting extras.

I wish that Scream would isolate the mesmerizing Bernard Herrmann score on an isolated audio track, but I realize that the label doesn't usually do that. I will be interested to see what extras are included. I assume that the 30 minute documentary will be present, if available. I look forward to this release.

The LE Arrow with Schrader's original screenplay is one of my favorite releases...

We'll see what Scream can do with it I guess...

That is a gorgeous release. Region-free, too.

Doubt I'll get the SF release unless the extras are VERY good.

I went ahead and ordered the Arrow version off someone, as I don't have confidence in this being any better.

I have the Arrow release and it’s great. Probably one of the better Films influenced by Hitchcock. I thought Criterion would get the rights to this.

I have a copy of the Arrow version, which is the best to date for this title. Since the film is a favorite of mine, and since Herrmann score is my all-time favorite motion picture score, I'm looking forward to seeing what Scream Factory will bring to the table.

The Arrow blu ray is already great. Any 'upgrade' will be marginal. Pass.

It's frigging DREADFUL, maybe the worst Scream/Shout cover since Village Of The Damned.

Yup. I dislike it. It's just bizarre, and in no way represents the film to me (with a little tweaking, it would be better suited for De Palma's Sisters). I usually find Scream's commissioned artwork to be a horror, so no surprises here. I really couldn't care less about artwork (or slipcovers, or steelbooks...): I'm just curious as to what new goodies Scream will provide in the way of new supplements; as someone perfectly content with the excellent Arrow release, Scream is gonna have to work hard to justify a double-dip on this title.

Remember the scene in Obsession where Michael approaches Sandra in the church and she tells him she's restoring a painting where experts have discovered another painting, possibly a masterpiece, beneath it? I think it would've been cool if the new cover art had a Courtland family portrait peeled away just enough to discern Bujold's overpowering likeness underneath...

I just wonder if there will be any new interviews with De Palma, Schrader, or Lithgow. Or if the Obsession Revisited feature from the Arrow release will be ported over along with some short films. I own the Arrow and I'm hoping this will be a worthwhile double dip!

I'm assuming it'll be the same transfer.

There's no way Schrader will be a part of any new extras...

I wouldn't be surprised if OBSESION comes with a reversible cover. I think the Arrow release had four separate covers IIRC.

Interviews with Bujold or Lithgow or De Palma would be great.

I guess Schrader is less of a possibility, although he did provide a full running commentary for the BD of HARDCORE.

I meant Schrader wasn't happening because he had a lot of problems with what De Palma did with his screenplay. He pretty much says anything he has to say about it here:

Robert Harris mentioned that this was "Based upon a new master provided by Columbia." Curious to see whether there's been a remaster since the Arrow release, or if this is just "New" for the US.
