If you count the November figures as well, it comes out to roughly 1.2 million. I think by "Holiday Sales", they were counting both November and December.

Actually they were counting the weekend after Thanksgiving (Black Friday) until the end of December.

I believe the 1.2 million PS3s came from around Nov. 23 'til year's end.

1.2 million was Black Friday through December 31st.

You have no one to blame but yourselves if you thought the number was December only, because they said it in the press release. :P

I wouldn't be too proud of those numbers, it was about half the number of 360s and Wiis.
Do not get me wrong, the PS3 is doing great as a BD player but it seriously needs help in the gaming department gaming saless are abysmal.
Sony needs to wrap up this format war crap so it can stop fighting two wars at once and build up the gaming side as it has the blu side.

You win some and you lose some. 2008 has some "promise" however on the gaming front, but they may never catch up this generation. Bring on MGS4, Killzone 2, etc and who knows what will happen though.

It's North America, Sony's weakest ground.

PS3 beat 360 in Europe and Japan.

well it all depends on what you compare it with. if you compare with game consoles, of course, but we're talking hi-def media here, and that number is amazing. That number is what made Warner chose blu

It is NOT half the number of 360's. The 360 did not out sell the PS3 by double. If you want to argue it, post the NPD link saying that it is. Otherwise, drop it. Here's another fact stat you can look up:

The PS3 sold more consoles in it's first year than the 360 did in it's first year (slightly). Safe money is that the PS3's 2nd year will be better than the 360's 2nd year as well. Will it catch the 360 from behind like Blu-Ray did to HD-DVD near the beginning of 2007? Doubt it, but gone are the days of "The PS3 is dead/stillborn" posts around the internet. Funny, they used to say the same about Blu-Ray.

Wait a second. NPD only accounts for North America. It says nothing about Europe or Japan.

The PS3 has been selling infinitely better overseas. How many 360's were sold outside North America during the last year, a million?

In the end, Sony has won. The HDM market is theirs and they can use that money to purchase every 3rd party studio to kill the other consoles.

The Wii will show its age in a year after their staples have become old catalog, with the exception of Wii Fit.

The 360, with the exception of Grand Theft Auto, is running on fumes. Ninja Gaiden 2 is the only really interesting exclusive.

This is just inaccurate. How many times do people need to pop up those charts that show sales from date of inception? PS3 is selling better than 360 at the same point in time after launch. You simply can't expect the games catalog to be at the same place as 360's.

They defined as "Nov. 23 to Dec. 31 holiday shopping period" which started on Black Friday.

So....
PS3 (Nov. + Dec.) < 360 (Dec.)

Not good, there are also no PS3 games in the top 10. Although the game thing is understandable given the current lack of PS3 games compared to the 360, and I am sure a lot of people are buying the PS3 for Blu-Ray player so that could explain the very weak PS3 software sales. I bet the PS3 sales will explode in '08 since the PS3 will finally be getting some good exclusives like MGS4 and because Blu-Ray has won the HD war and it costs just as much as stand alone Blu-Ray players and it has the advantage of being updated to profile 2.0.

I agree. I have heard a lot of people talking about going and getting a ps3 since the move of WB to blu. The ps3 does indeed have some great games coming out this year that have a lot of following. MGS4 is a great example. Within the next year or so you also have FF13, which will be a big draw for people as we get closer to that release date (who knows when that will be)

Can you honestly blame the North American market for going 360. The amount of media time that MS has purchased is comparable to the propoganda of a communist state. Look at what happened with Halo 3, you even had the retarded douche bags from daytime TV talking about it like it's the Holy Grail. Meanwhile, COD 4 smokes the game in every regard and you wind up with a little bit of clapping from real gamers. I imagine that if the PS3 is able to get some traction in mainstream media, then it will push ahead in 2008. However, the quality of the product has nothing to do with success in North America; it's whatever company can manage to get the mouth-breather on Good Morning America to mention the name.

I can't fathom the success of the 360. The best part about it is the old school downloadables. If I wanted FPS, I would get an 8800 ready PC and play the games the way they should be played. The 360 is just a broke-ass PC for FPS fans.

If these numbers are right, that means, that there are over 11 million blu-ray players out now ... Nice

I think the games for my PS3 are awesome. New games are coming all the time now. I'm very pleased
