I love this line:

Quote:
Even Sony, which is super-sensitive about protecting its property from others, uses Bluetooth for its wireless controls, but the 360’s proprietary system means third party accessories are a distinct no-no.
Isn't "proprietary" in just this kind of context and situation something that Sony bashers use ad infinitum?

Will ironies never cease?...

Quote:
Speaking to eToychest, Red Octane says it would be happy to craft a wireless axe for the 360, but “[Microsoft] aren't allowing 3rd party manufacturers to make anything at the moment....so until they allow us to do so, we aren't able to.”

That means Xbox owners will only be able to live their rockstar dreams at a cable’s length from the console, while PS3 gamers strut their stuff all over the living room.

It might be horrendously delayed over here, but chalk this one up as a victory for the PS3.
Just the first of many victories to come. You can count on it.

Default Yes, there are alternatives

Basically this network access point device is a "slave" wireless router that talks to a "master" wireless router.

Here's an example of an access point device:

I use a similar Dlink product for my xbox 360.
This allows the xbox 360 to use more wireless protocols: b/g/a/N/bluetooth depending on what the access point device and your main wireless router are capable of.

But we were talking about game peripherals, not net access.

In order to make a wireless game controller, a manufacturer needs information from MS that they are not releasing, so any 3rd party game peripheral will be wired.

I thought one was just recently announced that worked wirelessly for PS3 and Xbox 360 in the same controller? I will have to dig up the link.
