Very much looking forward to this release.

I think it was hinted at forever ago... or feels like it.

Instant buy for sure esp if Barnes has their NOV 50% off sale.

I saw this film first-run, back in the day, at a small arthouse theater. I really enjoyed it, although it looked to have been filmed in 16mm.

I really wish that Criterion had gotten co-star Amy Wright to contribute an interview.

Hopefully it will be available at the November B&N sale.

I always liked this film, but just taped it off TCM. Christopher Guest looks pretty good in the movie. I can almost understand Jamie Lee Curtis seeing a picture of him and saying "that's the man I'm going to marry!", but not really.

Blind bought this and it came today. Comes with a booklet instead of those pamphlets Criterion's been doing more and more of.
The entire package looks fabulous, though I won't get to watch until tomorrow.

Never heard of this movie before, but I just might blind buy it just for Melanie Mayron. Had a major crush on her back in the day when she was on the TV show Thirtysomething - the yuppie yakfest that you either really loved or really hated, and if you're a guy, you would never admit to the former, but decades have passed and I can now safely out myself, I think?

I'm definitely intrigued. I've never heard of this but I'm a major 70s-80s New York film aficionado so I will definitely check it out. Hell, might even blind buy.

Might be off topic, but can you give some recommendations?

No prob! I'll make up a list and send you a PM.

I ended up blind buying this title too but haven't watched it yet. From what I've heard it seems pretty solid though. I guess it was Stanley Kubrick's favorite film!

I just purchased this movie during the B&N Criterion sale and while I haven't watched it yet, I did pop it into my player to look at the video quality. I was surprised at how grainy this film looks since they claim to have done a 4K restoration on this film. I wonder if it has something to do with it being filmed in 16mm as a previous poster in this thread indicated? In any event, I wasn't too impressed with what I saw from a video standpoint, at least initially. Looking forward to watching the film, regardless.

The transfer looks gorgeous and grainy as it should.
4K transfer means it should come across looking like film.

Then I guess I need to look into what a 4K transfer is actually intended to do because I apparently have some misconceptions about it.

It recreates what the movie is supposed to look like. This was and will always be grainy because of the 16mm. In the case of T2 4K they used DNR which scrubs the grain away and creates a waxy look.

Finally finished watching this. Solid release. Good on Criterion for releasing it. I never heard of this movie before maybe three months ago. Turns out there's so much information about it. Recent interviews (other than what's on the disc), articles, etc.

I only have one minor issue with it and that's the editing. Scenes seemed to stop abruptly and not resolve themselves. Even if they were running out of money (it took a year to finish), I would think the shots for the day would have completed. I dunno.

Either way, very good movie.

This was definitely a “where has this been all my life” movie for me. I’m bummed there aren’t thousands like it.

I agree, Melanie Mayron is fantastic (also great in Car Wash and The China Syndrome.)

I don't think it's that rare, the last ten years has been one girlfriends knock off after another. Every film festival will show you mumblecore about women walking around, talking gibberish and doing nothing.
