does your bose have analog inputs? If so, you can use those if you are using a standalone BD player. If you're using a PS3 for blu-ray movies, you're up a certain creek without a paddle.

Sorry, but you would have to upgrade more than just a receiver for advanced audio codecs. 2'' cubes are not going to cut it.

Seriously though. . . Buy what you want; let her try to kill you; file charges. Problem solved.

Haha. I always get a laugh out of your "marraige counseling" tips.

Have 'em carve "But I just wanted a new stereo" on your tombstone. I guarantee there will be fresh flowers there, every week.

Which Lifestyle model do you own? The ones I have seen have analog outputs (RCA jacks) that connect to the normal Bose satellites, center and sub. Check the impedance of the speakers in the manual. If it's 6 - 8 ohms, you're fine with most surround sound receivers. Just replace that appliance that came with the Bose set. I hear good things here about Onkyo's stuff.

how long have you had the Bose system? I'd consider selling and starting a new component system if that's an option. A good collection of Speakers will never out-grow technology, and then you need to only worry about upgrading receivers (unless you go Mono-tube amps, with pre-amps, and tuners, etc. etc. but that's more for the audiophiles out there, and not us common folk)

Good luck with whatever you do.... do the speakers take normal speaker wire? you can get a new receiver, and keep those speakers for the time being...

Seriously: replace your speakers with something that isn't made by Bose.
