Bloomberg: PlayStation is planning its own subscription service, codename Spartacus

This will apparently be a 3-tier service, with one of them allowing access to a library of classic PS1, PS2, PS3 and even PSP games

Sadly I've got a feeling it's streaming. I'd rather be able to download the games at max res and with their original audio (i.e. PCM/surround sound)

I certainly hope they will allow downloads, Now has been absolute trash for me every time I’ve tried it.

They’re not going to be dropping new release day one like GamePass so I’m reserving my interest on this one until Sony firm up the details.

There was a rumor last month that PlayStation plans to unveil a PC app in early 2021 so I think these games will be streamed & the PC app will try and entice PC gamers to buy into this service.

A big cash grab scheme, and I'll bet it won't be "reasonably" priced at all.

PS2 and PSP games would be cool. I'd love to play Crisis Core.

If they set it up like Game Pass it would be cool. I just don't see it though.

Sounds good to me. As long as there's still the option for the basic PS+ stand-alone.

Am intrigued to see what they announce, but I'm not personally a fan of using an outright Game Pass type tier. With a full-time job I just don't get through enough games to want to jump between channels (games) like that. I can easily spend a month on a couple games max because I normally only play what I really want to, I own them and I always 100%/plat them.

I've said from the very beginning that streaming games can **** off! Not interested! Will not pay for it! Download or bust! And yes, that includes PS3 games! And even if they do manage to make PS3 games downloadable, I still wouldn't subscribe unless games like MGS 4, Motorstorm 1 & 2, Mod Nation Racers, and Resistance 1 & 2 were available.

PC's atm can brute force emulate PS3 games, there's becoming little reason why Sony couldn't make an easier official method and let us download them. Although this is a company struggling to have 1:1 compatibility with even PS4 titles

But then they managed to release one of the worst emulators possible with the PS mini lol I wouldn’t trust Sony to do anything good with emulators lol

Better off paying the fans to make it for them.

Yeah, apparently the mods made for it actually made it far better.

Personally I tried to keep mine under wraps, or at least be rather subtle about it, so I didn't want to steal your spotlight

If this turns out to be what this could/should be, then I'd be very interested. If this ends up being streaming for the classic titles, then I will likely care less as I'm like a decent amount of people still that don't have good enough internet for it to be a good/viable option.

I'm still interested to see how this all turns out though at least. It would really look bad if they ended up dropping the ball on something like this.

I always wanted ps plus have tiers. I’d be interested in a tier that has online play + Cloud storage without the free games
