Barbarian = Vivarium

This is a remake of the latter. The two words sound similar and the definition of vivarium is what is being depicted in the trailer. They just didn't make the main characters husband and wife. This also has a much more "horror" edge than Vivarium's more twilight zone edge. I was not a fan of Vivarium, though. I'll probably rent this.

Erm…I don’t think it is, Vivarium is about a couple buying a new home and get trapped in a desolate pristine suburb where they’re forced to raise a rapid growing child from hell. This is about an AirBNB that the hosts clearly trap in some sort of torture dungeon or science lab. I’d say this is closer to Get Out just with the meet the parents set up swapped out.

They do have to change it up a bit, because making a carbon copy remake is lame. I spotted some elements from Vivarium (especially the rapid cut footage towards the end of the trailer) and the clumsy title was the real giveaway, IMO.


If I'm wrong then I'm wrong, but we'll see when this is released on home video.

You mean like all trailers from the last twenty years?

Come on man, I don’t think this looks good but “man and woman in a spooky house” is like 60% of horror films, Vivarium isn’t even that close to what this film is like compared to other films. I don’t know what the twist will be to this but considering the cast list is far bigger than Vivarium I somehow doubt it’s freaky real estate baby.

I did mention this was more horror than the other film was. The other one is more science fiction than anything. This one does have the cool AIRBNB set-up, but the twist will be that it's some wicked science experiment. They just snag strangers and put them together in a house/neighborhood with a bunch of traps or whatever instead of a husband/wife family variation.

What is funny is that there's another film that was released last year called "Barbarians" that also takes place in a home, but that one has home invaders (I think?), so all of this just for the sake of a clever title is peculiar.

Same, but then again, it's a Regency (co-)production, so there probably were deals in place with that company to release it theatrically.

By the way, for anyone asking, yes, Justin Long is in the cast.

Its like whatever happen to that movie? I remember seeing the trailer for it before the Invisible Man in 2020. Then the world basically ended for a while. Last I heard Amazon bought it back in 2020. And not a thing since.

I saw the trailer for this in front of The Black Phone. Got a laugh out of the aforementioned credits. The title coming up was a big WTF. Why is it called Barbarian?

At first, I thought this was the movie version of the old PC Psygnosis game Barbarian.

Great horror music build up for this trailer. Looks interesting. Not too sure about that robotic narrator's voice over though in the final part of the trailer. Makes it seem like this is a

I've seen a lot of those types of horror movies. Good but hopefully this is new.

There's multiple answers to that and all are major spoilers.

Seen this twice now - last week at a Beyond Fest sneak screening and tonight at the official L.A. premiere - and I loved the hell out of it both times. Avoid as much as you, even the trailer, and just go support this year's
