On Saturday, July 30, 2022 we'll host our 18th annual 4K HDR TV Shootout Evalueaiton event in NYC. Sunday, July 31, 2022 is our 8K HDR TV Shootout.
We have 2 of each TV breaking in for calibration. I have 2 of each TV prepared for the event so if anything happens to any of the TV(s) we have a back up ready to take it's place and the show goes on as scheduled. We have most of the TVs braking in our lab and basement, but some of the back-up TVs are in our showroom. Here's just one picture from our showroom with two of the 8K TVs, LG 88Z2, and Sony's 85Z9K and a couple of the 4K TVs that will compete in the TV SHootout! ![]() We'll be live-streaming the entire two days on http://www.YouTube.com/SpareChange . We have a team of moderators to answer questions and to bring some of the questions to our presenters and panel of expert judges. |

The raised blacks with ambient light on both Sony and Samsung, coming out of black faster on the Sony, and the lack of DV on the Samsung, might give the advantage to the G2.

I've seen the 83" G2 and it looks amazing. My local BB will have the A95K soon. If I was looking for a new display, it would be between those 2. Not gonna jump for a 8K until there is content which at this point is questionable.

Just for your use case and considering you have LG's 77" GX Gallery Series OLED TV here's my thoughts.
As great at Sony's new 2022 65" A95K Master Series QD OLED TV I'd still suggest any 83" OLED TV as the best upgrade from your beautiful 77GX. |

Robert, Saw the excellent interview with Brian on youtube today. Quite impressive with all the engineers from Samsung, Sony, etc that will be there.
Just curious if you could ask Samsung engineers about their color switching bug on the S95B which I own. By bug, I mean not automatically switching from P3 to bt.2020 when the HDR content dictates. When set to auto, it remains in P3 no matter what with HDR. You can manually switch to custom color space and then select bt2020, IF you know what contents expands beyond P3. It should do that automatically when set to Auto, but it does not. Sony does it correctly and so do others, but for some reason, Samsung has had this bug for years. Thanks. |

Should be plenty of fun. I've already placed my bet on LG, picking up a 65" C2 on sale over the Fourth of July, and moved my C8 to the bedroom. I was tempted to wait and possibly splurge on the Sony A95K, but it was just too large a gap in price with the LG at $2,099 and even bigger developments on the horizon.
It's only a few weeks, but I'm pretty shocked at just how much of a picture quality upgrade the newer/brighter panel delivers, and likewise finding the new, much faster microprocessor and related UI/AI is head and shoulders above the C8. Out of the box accuracy is markedly improved, so I'm more than good for screening films until break-in is over. All in all, a fantastic job by LG with the older OLED tech. Curious to find out what QD-OLED has to offer in the shootout, along with 8K. |

I currently have a Pioneer 60 inch KURO KRP-600A... so I'm assuming the Sony A95K will be a HUGE jump in quality?? |

Thanks Robert. I'm fine now (two weekends ago, was a different story). I just have a random cough. I do miss when you used to have it at the store (but I understand why you no longer hold it there due to size constraints at the store).

Are those units random retail samples or were they preselected to avoid faulty non-uniform ones?

Based on past shootouts, Robert stated that they are from his store's inventory and they randomly select units from them. Also, they spend days calibrating them so they would know if a set had any issues in advance so they replace it with another one.
