Wait, so...have they found a better source than the current BD? Or did they just re-scan the pre-existing elements?

VERY interested in this though. Was not expecting this film to get a UHD given the elements available.

This this this thiiiiiiiiis. It’ll prolly be the least 4K-worthy transfer to have appeared on 4K thus far but oh mai lawd that current HD scan is atrocious. It would’ve looked fine for what it is had they not bladdered it with DNR, but they did and it looks fookin awful. That’s not revisionist history either, I couldn’t stand more than 15 minutes of the Olive BD with its lazy grain. The Italian disc isn’t much betterer, but at least they didn’t crush the blacks even more like Olive did.

Does anyone know what the OG A/R is for this? 1.85:1?

This B&W will go nice with my 2 B&W StanelyKubrick 4K's, and B&W Touch of Evil 4K.

The more 4K HDR B&W films I see the more I think it's a must to upgrade these old classics, at least it's more eye catching than old color film with added HDR. Weird...strange...I know...beyond any comprehension.

From what we know it was filmed in 1.85 , then done to superscope 2.01 , If the negatives survive it can be restored to what it was filmed as and baked/frozen grain fixed . I have no idea what Kino got planned for the 4K , But I can't wait , I'm sure (hoping) they will do the best it can be with what they have . Its saying 1.85 in the Kino listing , But no confirmation as far as we can tell . Unless someone has any details ?

I hope this release is able to include the Perspecta Stereophonic sound mix missing on all previous editions. It has been restored by Paramount in recent years from what I'm aware of.

HOLY moly! Please, please, please let this mean the negative was finally found and we can see the film in 1.85 without the stretch distortion of Superscope being applied after the fact by studio/distributors. Also it needs to have the Perspecta mix Bob Furmanek confirmed Paramount restored but didn’t give to Olive for their Signature disc.
If this is the case it’s disc of the year just for that. I’ve hoped for this masterpiece to be treated better for years.
