For those curious about Project Q, but not sure how functional it will be using PS Remote Play is, why not try it out now by pairing a DualSense controller with your mobile device and/or PC? Sony also promotes Backbone as a BYOD alternative.
iPhone (Lightning) https://blog.playstation.com/2022/07...r-playstation/ Android (USB Type-C) https://blog.playstation.com/2023/05...android-today/ Razor Kishi is another BYOD alternative. iPhone (Lightning) https://www.razer.com/mobile-control...-v2-for-iphone Android (USB Type-C) https://www.razer.com/mobile-control...v2-for-android Last edited by heyadol; 05-27-2023 at 11:46 PM. |

I used to use remote play a lot on my ipad/laptop with a controller, but now I usually play native steam deck games if I’m watching the tv, which made Steam become my main gaming platform
If they they managed to make remote play better than the non dedicated devices, I’m interested |

If I was interested, I would have hoped for a way to plug in the display controller, as holding a charge and having to recharge is a hassle IMO. I want the option to have a plug in adapter, not to charge, but to power it.
If the new system was 49.99, I'd be interested potentially, if you could download the games instead of only streaming. In other words, it's not made with me in mind. I'd guess 199.99 minimum price, and 299.99 max price if they want to sell units. |

It’s basically Vita 2.0 meh, no thanks. I want to see the PS5 slim, not this garbage. Why Sony now wants to compete with Nintendo Switch, who knows. This thing will flop badly.

I could see this thing maybe taking off in the Asian markets if the price is right. For what this is, I'd say the price needs to be 150.00 on the low end but no higher than 200.00. I mean, what are we talking about here, tech wise? A split Dualsense controller, a cheap 1080p LCD screen, and WiFi? There's no processing power in this thing, no storage, no RAM, etc. If this costs more than 200.00 I think it would be dead in the water.

it's not a vita 2.0, and they're not competing with the switch. but they should, handheld is more popular than ever

Right, that was kind of the message in post #2. A reminder that PS Remote Play is available now with equipment you probably already own. It’s ok, maybe Project Q will make it better but who knows. Last edited by heyadol; 05-29-2023 at 09:35 PM. |

If it functions the same way as Remote play on the phone, then I don't want it if it doesn't at all have cloud gaming. I just can't figure out Remote Play, I heard it can run with the PS5 while in Rest mode, but it turns on every time I try.

So it can be accomplished with a smart phone and controller. That's cool, I didn't know that was possible with PS5. i wonder if those larger tablets work too probably, for a larger screen. |

My phone can do a hotspot so I guess I could play my PS5 anywhere with this thing but i think I'd rarely actually want to play it somewhere else so I don't see myself getting this.

One would think that a dedicated device, designed just for streaming, would yield better performance without all the overhead that a multipurpose cell phone has. Plus, it's annoying to be gaming on your phone and deal with constant notifications like texts, emails, software updates, etc. That's why I stopped listening to music on my phone and bought a dedicated music player. I got tired of the constant interruptions.

With the limited info available, I think the Wii U comparison would be my most likely use case. For away from home use, if Sony wants me to pack Project Q vs Switch or Steam Deck, both of which can be used in flight or basically anywhere as long as your battery is alive, it is going to take some convincing or a game I want to play that is better on/exclusive to PS5. Although Sony would probably make an excellent device for cloud streaming GFN and Project xCloud, as well as Android games, can't say I'm interested if this turns out to be Sony's slightly better take on the Logitech G Cloud. I can see why it will be an interesting options for many out there but at this point I am not that interested in it. When I was a kid in high school, not having to fight with my sisters for TV time, being able to play in the bus... something like this would have been awesome. But I am now in my 50's and if I want to play I just sit down in front of my big screen and play. |

I wish Sony just put the resources they're spending on this into a Steam Deck competitor instead. I've said it before, but a proper Vita 2 with dedicated games and ports is just not viable in today's landscape - hell, it arguably wasn't viable with the Vita itself, given how it ultimately didn't see much support outside of indie and Japanese devs. But we've seen the PC-based handheld market explode in the wake of the Steam Deck, and Sony & PlayStation have the brand recognition and resources to make some serious waves there.
