Update: Dolby Vision is now confirmed on Amazon:

Quote:
Feature presented in Dolby Vision and Atmos

Presented in a limited edition SteelBook

Sony will be relasing a 4K Steelbook for the film's 25th Anniversary. No idea if this is merely a wide release of the BB Exclusive SB, or something different.

This is their brief description:

Quote:
The King of the Monsters roars back onto to 4K UHD as a limited edition 25th Anniversary Edition SteelBook!

Eh I'll stick with the previous 4k steelbook.

As Bubbles-11 pointed out in the 4K thread, this may now include Dolby Vision. That's something that Sony has added with Steelbook re-releases (like Mask of Zorro)

I was literally just thinking about how I wanted to add this to the collection, and that I was surprised that we haven't seen a 25th anniversary edition. I'll most likely pick this up.

I'm not even set up for Dolby Vision but I may once again buy this film. Would be nice if they had some new extras.

We already had SBs with the Foot poster and the Eye poster. Can we have some new art, please? It'll probably look awful but at least it'll be fresh.

Somehow I’ve a feeling they will add some minor bonus features to the 4k disc.

I want to commit to this, but have to see that artwork.

I miss how much fun films used to be back then.

Target and Amazon pre-orders are up. No artwork or details yet, but I imagine it'll be posted somewhere soon.

Sony’s MO seems to indicate this will get a Dolby Vision bump, as well as the theatrical teasers and trailers added to the 4K disc. That’s probably enough to get me to buy one more time. Hopefully the art doesn’t suck but they’ve already used the poster art on prior releases, so this’ll probably be more in the vein of what they did for Men In Black and Air Force One.

The original release already had the trailers on the 4K disc, so DV will likely be the only significant change.

I haven't seen this movie in forever, but if there were any english subtitles for foreign language, those will also be upgraded to the burned-in theatrical ones.

God, I hope so -- aside from the soft subs appearing outside the frame IIRC, the footage underneath for those shots seems to be sourced from the old HD transfer, and looks noticeably worse than the surrounding 4K material.

Which other Sony re-releases did this? I haven't been bothering with the double-dips as I don't have a DV-compatible TV but I wasn't aware of the subs.

Bram Stoker’s Dracula restored the burnt-in subtitles in the 30th steelbook release last year, Call Me by Your Name 4K also has burnt in subtitles, whereas the blu ray for both releases have removable subtitles

Bram Stoker's Dracula and Men in Black are the big ones, because the original releases used textless dupes and they were of obviously lower quality than the original opticals with subtitles.

The improvement is quite noticeable: MIB, Dracula.

Call Me by Your Name is a modern movie that was finished digitally, so there isn't any difference in quality between the textless and burnt in version, outside of having the novelty of original theatrical subs.

I love it. I was 9 when it came out, and seeing it in theaters on opening day was fun as hell.

Would have been even better if Godzilla would of had the atomic laser breath, without that it's just a big giant creature movie where it is defeated in 2 hours time.
