This special limited edition deluxe magnet box + slipcover set (designed by Tony Stella), includes a 40-page perfect bound book and is limited to 8,000 units. It is only available on our website and at select indie retailers. Absolutely no major retailers will be stocking them.

Set during the height of the Vietnam War and deep in the swamps of Louisiana, a group of National Guardsmen have been ordered to partake in a simulated jungle exploration in an isolated part of Cajun country. After getting lost during the training mission, the soldiers commandeer canoes belonging to the locals in order to take a shortcut. When the rightful owners discover the soldiers with their property, the situation spirals out of control leaving one man dead and the soldiers caught in a deadly game of retribution. What follows is a bloody fight for survival as, with only their wits and blanks for ammunition, the soldiers will have to journey deeper and deeper into the bayou as they’re forced to face the brutal reality of Cajun justice...

An intensely violent war metaphor filmed on location in the Louisiana Bayou, director and co-writer Walter Hill’s (The Warriors, 48 Hrs.) acclaimed “backwoods” survival thriller, SOUTHERN COMFORT features an all-star cast headlined by Oscar winner Keith Carradine (Nashville), Emmy winner Powers Booth (Red Dawn), Fred Ward (Short Cuts), T.K. Carter (John Carpenter’s The Thing), and Emmy winner Peter Coyote (Bitter Moon). Vinegar Syndrome Ultra is proud to present SOUTHERN COMFORT in 4K UHD for the first time, newly restored and loaded with extras.

directed by: Walter Hill
starring: Keith Carradine, Powers Booth, Fred Ward, T.K. Carter, Peter Coyote, Lewis Smith
1981 / 106 min / 1.85:1 / English Mono

Very nice! The more Hill on 4K the better and this is one of his best in my opinion!

Went in to this with minimal expectations the first time I watched, and left as a lifelong fan when it ended. A taut thriller and one of Walter Hill’s best. Excellent pickup by VS!

Just 13 hours into 2024, VS is already killing it. A great grab on their part.

I never expected this title OR Phase IV to roll out on 4k in 2024. Excellent developments, all around.

Call me crazy but I prefer this over “deliverance”. It’s 10 hours in 2024 and vinegar syndrome already got $60 from me hahah.

Speaking of which, thank God for boutiques. VS, casually dropping Southern Comfort on 4k at random, while catalog mega-slumlord Warner Bros couldn’t be arsed to drop Deliverance on uhd in 2022, not even for the film’s FIFTIETH anniversary....that's absolutely frikkin' pathetic, WB.

Ok, you're crazy. But apparently I am too, because I feel the same way about this being a better movie than Deliverance.

I wouldn’t have the arrogance to call anyone ‘crazy’ for preferring Southern Comfort over Deliverance but I’d pull up anyone with the temerity to call it ‘better’.

I was a bit underwhelmed when I saw Deliverance, but that was years ago and I've been meaning to give it a re-watch.

Re: Boorman, I really wanted to like Zardoz cause it's balmy but I found it so ugly to look at. Exorcist II and Excalibur are gorgeous, though.

You have to go into it with properly managed expectations, with the understanding that it is first and foremost a woodsy rite-of-passage softcore porno. In some southern circles, it is rumored to be viewed as the everyman's Barbarella, with some whitewater rafting footage thrown in.
