Whilst i think the console "wars" have been entertaining at times for marketing and so on, i think with MS making such a massive purchase of Activision Blizzard and also moving more heavily into the PC space with Xbox, perhaps at a 3:1 outsold ratio, they may have decided to dip their toes in to test the waters by partnering to Sony. If we're actually being honest, Sony and MS are not the fierce enemies gamers like to make out. The PC space for example where Sony makes hardware has for a long time worked with their OS and other packages, Sony use MS for many other services and so this possible Xbox on PS hardware isn't an entire pipe dream. Hell, does anybody remember when cross platform online play wasn't a thing? Sony will win by getting additional revenue as will MS and to "fans" this will be seen as a "WIN" from Sony game based sticklers as to Xbox acknowledging Sony won this "war" and MS as to opening up a potentially huge revenue stream. MS also probably will not release their big titles on launch bar perhaps what could have been 3rd party franchises prior to the Activision deal, so perhaps no Halo as an example u til much down the line. Think say how Sony try to position PlayStation then PC releases 9f titles presently. Also, Xbox doing a PC streaming service like Sony operate EA Plus and getting a 30% revenue cut is likely to be an incentive they're likely to accept as the cost of doing business with an agreement to take slightly less for subscriptions being bought over from Xbox/PC and just signed in with. |

Unfortunately even if they are released on PlayStation 5 they will probably still be incomplete discs. All of Microsoft's major releases on Xbox Series X require a substantial download and I doubt they'll change their ways for PlayStation 5 releases. That's if they even get physical releases at all.

To me, this only makes sense on Microsoft’s end if Game Pass is coming to PlayStation. The large majority of active Game Pass subscriptions are on Xbox consoles. If Xbox games are going to PlayStation, I would expect at least half or more of current Xbox owners to switch from Xbox consoles to a PS5. This would also lead to Xbox eventually dropping out of the console race. And while some people here would surely applaud that, it would definitely not be good for the industry.
If Sony and Nintendo end up as the only console providers, I could see Sony skipping a PS5 Pro to go directly into releasing the PS6 sooner than planned and charging a premium for it. Because the Sony audience is going to pay much higher price for a stronger console than go with the weaker Switch 2 at a lower price, and Sony would gladly like to sell hardware for an actual profit. When Sony thought they had a stranglehold in the market two generations ago, we saw how they handled it, releasing the PS3 for a staggering $600 in 2006. With no competition in their field, there would be no reason for them to sink large amounts of money into first party AAA games. They could just let third party publishers release games for them and live off PlayStation + and PlayStation store profits. And it would still be Microsoft playing the long game, hoping for the demise of consoles and a future in game streaming, all while making tons of profit FROM their current competition in game sales and subscription fees. I think it also escalates the time line for PlayStation to go full digital. And on that note, I’d say that’s where we’ll be in the next 5 years, regardless. Xbox dropping out of the console race would just get us there sooner than expected. |

![]() There was a format war with Blu Ray costing more to include as the storage medium for games and then there was also the fact the CELL cost a helluva lot more to develop and i'm fairly sure PS3 was losing a lot more money on each unit sold. Whilst i do think Sony would end up charging more for a console without MS competition, i'm not expecting MS to drop out. They're modifying their approach to probably eek out more money by Game Pass and letting Xbox still have the exclusives for years at launch and physically. |

They're not putting Game Pass on Switch or PlayStation. Sony and Nintendo won't allow it. Rather they are going to try and sell their games on PlayStation and Nintendo, ala carte.
MS is doing this for one simple reason. They aren't getting enough subscribers to Game Pass to subsidize the cost of their game development. And they're not selling enough hardware to grow their subscriber base. On top of that, because they've been pushing Game Pass so much for the last 6 years, putting their exclusive games in their day one, they've conditioned a large portion of their userbase to NOT buy games anymore. So they are kind of stuck in a catch 22. And with the cost of game development going up and up, their current business model is simply not sustainable. Plus, they just spent nearly 80 billion dollars on Activision/Blizzard. They are looking to recoup that as well. I saw this coming from a mile away! Sony allows EA Play and Ubisoft+ on PlayStation, how is Game Pass different? Every game in these subscriptions is available for purchase Ala carte and Sony collects their fee for every subscription and game sold.

I think it's more a situation with optics than anything tbh. Kinda like how to the best of my memory, Apple doesn't release products for PC, Android etc. and vice versa when in a directly competing industry. MS however do have the same problem here to overcome with Sony able to point blank refuse, HOWEVER and this is maybe me just relying on the greed of execs looking for bonuses and shareholders wanting a big fat bump in prices. I think it will happen in one way or another to dip the toes before maybe going further. Sony would benefit to the tune of tens of millions a year more in revenue and MS at minimum. Probably wouldn't be a stretch to say upwards of $100+ million for just even a Game Pass style service on PlayStation.

Gamepass is a direct competitor to PS Plus and redundant with alot of overlap so i cant see Sony allowing it on their system. It would directly cut into sales of their own service as most people arent likley to subscribe to both. Gamepass on Playstation would strengthen Xbox/Gamepass but weaken PS Plus and Sony has no incentive to even do that

Destiny 2 kind of plays like a Halo game which is cool, but it's too restrictive of a game as it has no pause menu nor an offline mode.
I'd love to see Halo 3 on PS4/PS5. heh |

"XBox Games will share vision for future, says Phil Spencer of MS". Interesting, thanks. Hopefully they consider bringing over the Bethesda Softworks games as I want to play the new Elder Scrolls and Fallout, and then the new Blade game.
