They're not putting Game Pass on Switch or PlayStation. Sony and Nintendo won't allow it. Rather they are going to try and sell their games on PlayStation and Nintendo, ala carte.
MS is doing this for one simple reason. They aren't getting enough subscribers to Game Pass to subsidize the cost of their game development. And they're not selling enough hardware to grow their subscriber base. On top of that, because they've been pushing Game Pass so much for the last 6 years, putting their exclusive games in their day one, they've conditioned a large portion of their userbase to NOT buy games anymore. So they are kind of stuck in a catch 22. And with the cost of game development going up and up, their current business model is simply not sustainable. Plus, they just spent nearly 80 billion dollars on Activision/Blizzard. They are looking to recoup that as well. I saw this coming from a mile away! Sony allows EA Play and Ubisoft+ on PlayStation, how is Game Pass different? Every game in these subscriptions is available for purchase Ala carte and Sony collects their fee for every subscription and game sold.

I think it's more a situation with optics than anything tbh. Kinda like how to the best of my memory, Apple doesn't release products for PC, Android etc. and vice versa when in a directly competing industry. MS however do have the same problem here to overcome with Sony able to point blank refuse, HOWEVER and this is maybe me just relying on the greed of execs looking for bonuses and shareholders wanting a big fat bump in prices. I think it will happen in one way or another to dip the toes before maybe going further. Sony would benefit to the tune of tens of millions a year more in revenue and MS at minimum. Probably wouldn't be a stretch to say upwards of $100+ million for just even a Game Pass style service on PlayStation.
