Default Turbulence 4k UHD (1997)

Buckle up! We're expecting some Turbulence (1997) coming from Kino Lorber Studio Classics on June 18th, 2024! Previously announced as a Blu-ray only release, the film has been upgraded (sorry, I couldn't resist) to a 4k UHD release that will be sourced from a brand new 4k scan of the 35mm OCN. It will have an HDR/Dolby Vision Master.

Pre-order directly from Kino here: https://kinolorber.com/product/turbulence-4kuhd

(Thanks to MifuneFan for spotting it on the KLSC calendar on the Home Theater Forums.)

Ray Liotta (Goodfellas), Lauren Holly (Dumb and Dumber) and Brendan Gleeson (In Bruges) face off at 35,000 feet above sea level in the high-impact action-thriller Turbulence. A handful of last-minute Christmas Eve passengers are boarding a flight from New York to Los Angeles that will change their lives forever…if they survive. For flight attendant Teri Halloran (Holly), it’s just another plane ride from coast to coast—with only one difference. This time they’ll be carrying two very special passengers—an armed robber named Stubbs (Gleeson) and a seductive serial killer called Ryan Weaver (Liotta)—both handcuffed, shackled and escorted by top security agents. But when Stubbs slaughters one of his escorts and manages to break free, the balance of power suddenly changes hands. Now the cool and intelligent psychopath Ryan Weaver controls the plane, and the lives of every passenger and flight attendant on it. With the massive 747 heading into a severe storm, the danger from outside is almost as deadly as the danger within. The storm could kill you—but Weaver will make you suffer first. You’d better fasten your seatbelts—because this trip is going to be a killer ride! Directed by Robert Butler (Night of the Juggler) and featuring Hector Elizondo, Rachel Ticotin, Jeffrey DeMunn, Ben Cross and Catherine Hicks.

Hilarious that they don't even have Lauren Holly listed in the cast.

Lol, it just went up today, so I assume they're still getting the page together. They don't have a summary yet either.

A guilty pleasure for sure.

I was on the fence with a blu-ray, but the 4K upgrade makes this a Day 1 purchase for me. Thanks, KL!

I believe this is licensed from paramount, as 2 days in the valley was, since this film was made by rysher entertainment and paramount currently owns almost every film they made

Actually, Turbulence is licensed from MGM/UA. I see the Rysher logo on the movie poster, but you'll see the old MGM logo in the extreme lower right.

Kingpin was also a Rysher production released theatrically by MGM. Paramount put the Blu out.

The director Robert Butler kind of struggles through the commentary track on this one. He's coherent overall, but he's clearly having trouble processing the more intensive questions. Which is not at all surprising considering he was over 90 years old when it was recorded.

The moderator tries to keep him busy, but Butler just seems overwhelmed by all the questions. Quite frankly, I'm surprised at how much he's able to contribute. He's slow to keep up at times, but to be fair, the mod is a bit too eager. He does get better as the track moves along.

Either way, it's always nice to hear from the people who worked on the film. RIP.
