While not on my wish list, it is on the even longer list of things I would never expect to see get a blu ray release.

I remember watching this on TV. Along with having a few action figures and even the video game.

They have an anniversary reissue in Deluxe packaging at Walmart in the DVD asile. It's around $25

I'll probably end up getting two copies of the Bluray and gifting one to my brother for Christmas. He loved this show as a kid.

FYI, it's not a reissue. It's a larger scale (5") and new sculpt inspired by the original figure.

Didn't know this show existed even though I watched the movies as a kid. It's giving me some Saturday morning Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle vibes that I'm down for. If only TMNT and Captain Planet were heading to blu-ray too, all three shows would make the ultimate Saturday morning marathon for months to come.

I had one, too -- the guy with two heads -- but I thought that he was from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles universe...! I had fifty Turtles toys.

I've never seen it before but I am intrigued by it. Looks like an animated series I might enjoy. Troma produced cartoon? Should be interesting.

Based on the Toxic Avenger thread and Justin Silverman’s Twitter, this is an AI upscale to 4K.

This is a Troma release... I expect it to be 3rd generation VHS captures dumped on a single disc and even with the special features included, taking up no more than 10gb total of disc space.

In all seriousness though, don't be surprised if they've just downloaded these youtube rips and are putting them on disc.

I don't blame you for thinking that but no. The original master tapes were sent to Retroware and they spent months fine-tuning the upscale and fixing issues. It looks far better than it has any right to look. Bonus features are also included that have never been seen before.

P.S. Check out our 4K release of The Toxic Avenger Collection, which looks incredible.

Oh we know the 4K collection looks incredible!

Some of us are just wary because of the use of AI (I don't mind upscaling, but when AI is involved it's a red flag). If you're saying though they've gone back and fix the errors that were affected by AI, at least that's something.

Maybe if you gave us some more details, it'll put our minds at ease.

Troma is bad, but they're no Dark Force

I'm guessing they couldn't find the negatives? Also:

Captain Planet? Was it from the negatives or an upscale from video masters?

Impossible when certain fans hate restoration via AI. I posted comparison shots on reddit of TMNT in 4K and they went ballistic, complaining about my carbon footprint and that the show belongs in VHS quality.

Troma never had them to begin with. We only had the tape masters, which were the best source to use because the show was edited on tape.

You can't blame them. The Jaws 3D and Terminator 4K shows you why AI should NEVER be used in restoration (less proper measures are taken to ensure none of the abnormalities because of that are present. Even so, it should never be sued). Unless the negatives can be found (including TMNT), there's unfortunately nothing we can do. We should be lucky those cartoons at the very least are on DVD.

Yeah but I was proposing AI be used for animation, not live action. Of course no one wants AI to upscale live action films and TV if it can be prevented.

I'm surprised considering it's the cartoon they devoted a feature length doc for the video game but not the making of the cartoon?

Typical Screenwave. They have casual nostalgia to show off and do it in a juvenile way. They must have realised it's not Screenwave viewers who will buy this, it's Toxic Crusaders viewers.

That's probably the second best source to upscale from unless you do what I was proposing above which would require the AI to be trained a lot. However it's certainly an easier option than reanimating the entire show even if that's the ideal solution.

Discotek Media has a bunch of SD on Bluray discs and they look fine to me. Much better than when companies try to use all this upscaling AI
crap. The higher bitrate and 264 codec has the video looking much better than it would on DVD.
