Finally, there will be a release of the full uncut version of WHO KILLED TEDDY BEAR (1965) on the Cinematographe label. The film was close to being an adults-only release but did play drive-in theaters. At the time of its theatrical release, Castle of Frankenstein magazine described it as portraying "all of the known perversions" (I'm paraphrasing from memory). Later TV prints were heavily censored.
It's a dark story about a detective on the edge (Jan Murray) who's trying to help a discotheque dancer (Juliet Prowse) ward off a sicko who's plaguing her with obscene phone calls. The cast also includes Sal Mineo and Elaine Stritch. The on-location photography of Times Square has some historical value today. This new restoration (which, according to Vinegar Syndrome, has been ongoing since 2018!) will present the complete 94-minute version of the film, including images of adult skin magazines, paperbacks, and explicit (by 1965 standards) poster art displayed on a Times Square movie theater. Those images have never previously appeared on TV or home video prints of TEDDY BEAR. Last edited by Jobla; 11-30-2024 at 03:52 PM. |
