USA Forbidden World 4K UHD (1982) (Shout! Factory)

Shout! Factory will be releasing the Roger Corman production Forbidden World (1982) on 4K UHD on March 18th! Both Theatrical and Director's Cuts will be on 4K.

Note/Warning: There are some reports that the audio of the Theatrical cut at around the 1hr 7min mark has a drop in quality, that makes dialogue sound muffled, and difficult to hear. This lasts for approximately 2 minutes. The Director's Cut does not have this issue. Please make sure to reach out to Shout to let them know about it.

On the planet Xarbia, an experimental life-form known as "Subject 20" has been created by an elite group of scientists in hopes of preventing a major galactic food crisis. However, instead of prolonging life, Subject 20 is destroying it, and the man-eating organism poses a double threat because it constantly changes its genetic structure. Bounty hunter Mike Colby is called in to investigate but soon suspects that the scientists are keeping something from him, and he discovers why . . . Subject 20 is half-human!

I'm guessing this will be a 3 disc set. 4K (theatrical only?), blu ray 1 (theatrical), and blu ray 2 (directors cut)

Some of Shout's distro rights expired and reverted back to one of the New Zealand producers. However, it's up on TUBI using a old tape transfer of the shorter US cut. The JPN BD is of the longer Australian/NZ cut and someone down under is rumored to be putting out a new remastered EDT sometime.

MGM owns overseas rights to 5 Roger Corman productions UA distributed overseas:

Jackson County Jail

Piranha

Up From the Depths (select countries: released in reedited form as Piranha 2 in places like Japan)

Humanoids from the Deep

Galaxy of Terror

Most pre-1983 New World productions are with Shout as part of the New Horizons purchase. Warner still controls some overseas rights to Battle Beyond the Stars in places like Germany and Japan, while the vast majority of countries reverted to Shout.

Actually it is, I have it, imported from Amazon jp.
It's quite fine, however, would love a new remastered disc, 4K or BD...

I suppose 88 Films are the likeliest candidate as they released Galaxy of Terror on Blu-ray a few years back, but then they never released Forbidden World, so who knows!

Ohhh, didn't realise Forbidden World wasn't with MGM here. That explains why 88 Films didn't release it. Dunno about 101 Films, though. Their deal with Shout just expired.

Knew this one was coming, sure as the sun was gonna set. Pinch me that the time is finally here. Hells yes, I'm in. If it's fairly definitive, I'll probably grab an extra 4k copy and throw it in the 2019 steelbook.

I’d put that money for the second one aside for the 4K steelbook likely still to come.

We'll likely see an official announcement today or tommorow, but in the meantime I now have cover art (albeit not high-res)

I think the fact that it’s on the 4K disc means it is.

While Galaxy of Terror is a genuinely interesting movie this one is more so-bad-it's-good, but it's still very entertaining. Definite buy for this sci-fi obsessive.
