Anything less than a billion dollars in profit isn't money to them

I've said it countless times, but it bears repeating.

What good is owning and hoarding a massive trove of films/prints/rights if you don't do anything with them. It's like putting money in the bank, except instead of interest, you actually have to pay to store the money, and the money slowly disintegrates over time.

30k here, 100k there, 75k here, it adds up. They had no problem investing millions/billions in massive flops, and theme park hotels that barely lasted a year.

To a lot of companies like Disney, not letting anyone else have them is a value to them.

I don't quite understand it myself but that seems to be the thinking of things.

Plus I'd wager it also has to do with merchandising. They cant have licensing deals for products, tshirts, Disney world tie ins, cross promotion and so on releasing old movies like they can by pushing new products. Disney seems to act as if they don't make billions on something it isn't worth doing, they only swing if they think it's going to be a home run. A base hit isn't good enough.

At least they seemingly seem to be slowly backing away from that by allowing some older titles to be released.

Really I wish anything non Disney friendly they own they would hand to someone like Sony and say "here, you release this and give us our cut of the money".

Got excited when i saw a potential Last of the Mohicans 4k but after reading the article, Mann thought it was already on 4k and he would like it in 4k but there is no way it would come out this year imo

He did say in the interview that he'll talk to Disney, that's better than nothing even if we don't see anything this year.

Quote:
MANN: Yeah, you're looking at it on the right system and all that. The answer 80-inch or the 77-inch Sony A95L is really the way to see it. That does make a big difference, though. Because of this interview, I have to go call Disney at the beginning of the week and tell them we should do it. We should have a 4K of The Insider for sure.

Even if it did it would probably only be the Director's Cut. Give us the Theatrical release instead.

We're only getting one cut of Mohicans here, and I have no clue which cut it will be.

I've never seen Legacy, but I know for a fact Tron had edits to it. The 2002 DVD had the film as released. The 2012 remaster removed a significant part of the film's original effects, so hopefully they're decent enough to add it back in.

All in all, I hope I'm just being too negative, these all get released, and they're all solid discs. However, with Disney being Disney, can you all really blame me?!?

This. The earlier colour timing for The Sound of Music is the version I grew up with and very much prefer, and I consider it a pretty drastic difference from the 2010 restoration. It's one of the reasons I have never actually picked it up in HD. I wouldn't be interested in a 4K if it maintained the 2010 look.

In a parallel dimension, it was Fox that bought out Disney and everything got put out on 4k. Too bad that's not this dimension, lol

My bad I went to check and mixed up some stuff in my head

I was mixing up a guy who said it baselessly
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...&postcount=102

and a post in he same thread about how the film was remastered in 4k for Sundance linking to this article
https://theplaylist.net/napoleon-dyn...sary-20231212/

Possible he said it during a screening but I can't confirm.

I know The French Connection was name dropped a few months go by, I believe, Criterion, as having a forthcoming release but I can't remember if it was just for a special screening. Don't know about the others. Everyone's favorite Youtuber, In Search of Physical Media, claims he has an inside source at Disney that feeds him information. He keeps saying there a "lots" of great Disney and Fox titles forthcoming beginning this year. Like him or not, I have to believe he can't be making everything up.

In what universe did they think people would spend $5,000 for two nights at a hotel just because it was Star Wars-themed? During a global recession, no less. Another piece of evidence that proves Hollywood is divorced from reality.

You can add Cocktail to the list, because I'm not gonna stop until it gets a 4K release.
