Aww, yeah.

Wasn't there some controversy over the bleach bypass in this? It's been a long time since i've watched either the DVD or blu, but weren't it missing from one or t'other?

Previous transfer was Spielbergo approved, so we'll get what we get. On home video he's long since moved away from that starkly desaturated bleach bypass look for the respective movies that used it.

I'm assuming Fox/Disney will release this in the UK at the same time for an alternative encode option

Yeah but they'll cram it onto a UHD66. Still be encoded betterer than the usual Paramount B-team shite even on a UHD100, but either isn't entirely optimal.

So, I guess Paramount is jumping on the $40 Steelbook only wagon?

Wouldn't get my hopes up. Disney has never released Air Force One on 4K internationally, they won't release Cinderella Man on 4K internationally and they have never released Popeye or Dragonslayer on even digital internationally.

I saw a 35mm release print screened at the Egyptian about a month ago.

Also saw it in theaters 6 times in 2002, including at a dollar theater the week the DVD came out. The DVD has the theatrical bleach bypass look. The BD does not.

Based on watching the BD, and seeing the print a few weeks back, the black areas ought to be almost totally crushed, which they aren't on the BD, and the BD is too colorful.

Yeah, look at screenshots, the DVD's color grading is definitely more how I remember it looking in theaters, to the best of my recollection. The BD is fine and it's not like it's overly saturated, but it definitely lacks that bleach bypass look.
